mte
humm, smells like you will need a mixer also, if you have been using a "karaoke" mic with your hifi, you probably just plugged the mic in the mic-in on your sound card... That's a bad idea though. If you just don't plug the mic in and open the mic-in on your "software mixer", you'll hear much noise... But for serious work you have to connect the mic on a mixer with mic-preamp and then connect mixer to your line-in on computer... No other way for serious work... KBP
57 looks ugly? Do you like the way the 58 looks cause it reminds you of the mic you've been using? KBOY
surfjunkie
the shure 57 & 58 are both great mics, and very similar. what singer or mc wouldn't choose the 58? would you stand on stage holding a 57 up to your face? more vocalists use the 58 because it looks better. those 2 mics would still be the most popular in the world if they cost twice as much. good luck and have fun, ElGenius. KBOY actually, kboy, quite the contrary - the SM-57 reminds me of the crappy mic i've been using...... well, i'll be using this new mic mostly for vocals anywayz, and someone suggested the sm-58 IS better..... chessparov
ElGenius1, Do you have a Guitar Center in your area? Many times they sell a Shure sm58 mike, and a mike stand for under $100. Yesterday, I checked www.joemeek.com and they were selling demo JM47 condenser mikes for about $120. If you go to Guitar Center check out the Behringer Eurorack 602A, it's a mixer that has phantom power for condenser mikes, 3 band equalization, and XLR mike inputs. They sell for about $100 there too. A mike pre-amp (like on the mixer above) brings a low level mike signal up to line level. The Midiman pre-amp probably sounds a bit cleaner than the Behringer, it's just you get more "goodies" with the mixer. If you are recording where there's a lot of ambient noise go with the sm58. ElGenius1
Just wondering....do any of you know about RADIO-SHACK mics ? are they any good, or decent?...the reason i'm asking is cuz they're having a sale on mics, as low as 15 or 20 bucks. Remember, i'm recording stuff suitable for demo right now.... the model number for the Dynamic unidirectional mic is 33-3018 (15 bucks) and the model number for the zinc-cast body unidirectional is 33-3024 (20 bucks) i know Emile commented about the radio shack-made shure, but i havent seen it yet. any of you had experiences (good/bad) with RAdio shack mics??? or u know about these mics, .....please respond.
