surfjunkie
i like my akai mpc2000, but i have a computer now. all my good mpc samples are now in a vst plug-in (loop-a-zoid). what i like about the mpc is the pads. i know about the handsonic, but what i want is velocity sensitive finger (not drumstick) pads, 4x4 layout (perfect for chopped drum loops), that send on all midi channels. any ideas? Pete Caigan
Why not just use your MPC with the midi output assigned to your computer?
Anderton
Maybe what he's saying is now he feels he can sell the MPC, but still wants some kind of cool pad surface. One option is to comb the classifieds for an old Ensoniq ASR-X. The pads are laid out like one octave of a keyboard, but they have a nice feel and good velocity response. ASR-X units don't go for much these days (although ASR-X Pros, the revised version, cost considerably more). Also, what about a Roland Octapad? Didn't a later version of that do velocity sensing? surfjunkie
thanks for the suggestion, craig. i do plan on selling the mpc, $$ and space reasons. the asr-x is cool (i tried one before getting the akai), but its pretty big. what were the first (midi) drum machines with velocity sensitive pads? actually, are there any? i have an alesis dm-pro with trigger inputs, so i could make some small pads w/ piezos. (it's in the shop, they said something about vestax) any other ideas?
KikkyMonk
I think the yamaha drum machine has velocity sensitive pads... not sure about the price but it is a couple years old... you might try that route.
Senator
Just got sent some info about these yesterday... ===================== Roland SPD-6 Drum Pad ===================== Sick and tired of sequencing rhythm tracks using your keyboard? The SPD6 is an inexpensive yet powerful drum padS6 pads to be exact. You can use it as a stand alone box (the sounds are great!!!) or as a controller. Now you can hit something with sticks (or with your fingers if you prefer) and feel good about it. http://www.kraftmusic.com/catalog/drums/index.asp?product=1315 How's that for nail on the head huh? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ------------------ Ed
Guest
I think Akai could make a few more dollars buy making a controller only interface. What about the Akai mixpad (or whatever they call it), the 16 pad trigger box made for DJs. You can't really replace the MPC. It has pressure sensitivity, which combined with note repeat is very musical. Also the mono sample trigger is very cool.
surfjunkie
more great suggestions- thanks! still looking online for the velocity sensitive yamaha, kikkymonk... the roland spd-6 is cool, and the price is right. its basically a pared-down octapad (sectopad just doesn't sound right). it has about the same footprint size as my mpc, i'm looking for something smaller. thanks, senator. plastic nut- i totally agree with your idea about the akai controller only interface. even when i fully utilized my mpc, i always wished i could have 16 more pads set up next to the thing. i'm looking into the "akai mixpad" you mentioned. i also agree that the mpc is a true original (actually, you didn't really say that), but i am going to replace it. i just want the pads. keep 'em coming, and THANKS! gtrmac
Yeah, having a pad controller is something I'm starting to think about too. I've been looking at the Roland 6 pad thingy. ------------------ Mac Bowne G-Clef Acoustics Ltd. Osaka, Japan My Music: www.javamusic.com/freedomland Mac Bowne G-Clef Acoustics Ltd.
