Need ballpark figure...

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to sell my console and I need help with its value. If anyone here knows anything, please leave a post.

The board in question is an Allen & Heath Saber. Its made in 1990. It has 24 channels, 16 busses, full MIDI Mute Automation(w/ scene recall and able to connect to an external sequencer), 4 band EQ with hi-mid/lo-mid sweepable, hi/lo cut, and hi/lo shelving. Its all +4dbU I/O. 6 aux sends, phantom pwr on every channel, and a built-in oscillator and talkback mic. All Alps pots and Alps 100mm faders. EQ on/off, phase, mute, solo, aux pre/post, and PFL on every channel. This thing is built like a friggin tank, too. I do have the VU meterbridge but the lights arent working. The meters still work, just not the lights. I have the pwr supply but no stand.(The stands seem to have ceased to exist)

I talked to my local Allen & Heath service center(who are also one of the top notch exclusively Pro Audio stores in So. CA) and they told me to ask for $6,000. But when I looked it up in the Orion Blue Book, it has this model at a value of $1,026!!!! Even though it shows its original list price at $16,000!!! How can this be?!?!

The only reason Im trying to sell this board is because of space constraints. I have a lot of bands calling me to record them, but cant do it in my house. I could really use the money, though. If I had some smaller, more portable gear, I could go to them.

What Im currently looking at purchasing(or trading for) is a Mackie 24-8 bus(I know, I know, but it really has everything that I need) and a Tascam MX-2424. (Im also selling my Teac 85-16 1" 16-trk)

Any help with this matter will be GREATLY appreciated!

I'm sorry...I'm just in one of those smartass moods...

And I'm sorry, I really have no idea...

Hey DuhDuh,

Fair market value is in the wallet of the buyer. I say that with all sincerity. SOMEONE wants your board and someone has a price that they are willing to pay. The question is, How much is absolute lowest you are willing to get for it? It's like all gear or any possesion that you are selling. The thing I like about EBAY is that it gives you a HUGE market, some guy/gal in Middeltown USA, or Denmark or Canada is looking for a board like yours and you need to make it available to him/her. $6000 seems a little high as technology has offered us so many more features for less these days. BUT someone might pay it or more. I have seen it, and seen it, and seen it.

I know absolutley nothing about the piece of gear that you are selling, but selling is selling and YOU are the X factor.

Personally, Blue book value doesn't mean shit. (unless you are the buyer)

Cheers.

Thanks for the replies! I put the thing in the local Recycler for $6000 OBO. Hopefully I get some calls.

Anyone else?

Basically, I want enough to get a Mackie 24-8 Bus and a Tascam MX-2424. I work at a guitar shop and can get these puppies for cost. So, I need about $6500 for the board and tape machine.

I've been to the ballpark, and those guys don't have good figures. I'm amazed that some of them can run to first base. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Um, I don't know what to tell you, except put it on Ebay with a high minimum and see who bids on it.
