ian_dup1
I saw these mics being blown out for $199 in Guitar Center and wondered if they were worth looking into...their large diaphragm condenser has the dual-diaphragm three-way switchable pattern action going on, and if it's a good mic at all, it would be a great buy. Anyone have any info on these? Thanks, Ian
Bonafide
Hey Ian, Im sure this will start flames throwing as usual. But IMO, the Oktava's are a steal for the price. They truly outlive and out perform thier price tag. Russian made, relatively sturdy. The switches are a little cheap but what do you expect for 2 bills. I have used the MK for about a year now on various stuff. Mostly as an extra mic for visiting musicians but it really has a decent top end. I noticed GC has the Audio Technica 4033 for about $299 w/ shockmount, That is another good deal along the same quality though I would actually buy the Oktava over it in terms of performance. I remember only about 3 years ago when the AT4033 was the home recordists 'buzz' mic. Now the market is so flooded with mics its ridiculous. Check out this review on the Studio Projects C1, This chinese made mic is being compared to VERY high end mics. I think price is about $200 as well. Interesting nonetheless. http://www.prorec.com/prorec/articles.nsf/articles/2CAB4F71AF9E2A1C86256A650081ECF9 Cheers
ian_dup1
Thanks a lot for the reply! I actually own an AT 4033, but I was interested in getting a multipattern large diaphragm mic for room micing guitar cabs and stuff like that. Is that the sort of thing the Oktava would do well at? Those Studio Projects mics sound very intriguing from the reviews. I would be very interested to hear one in action. Too bad no retailers seem to be carrying it in my neck of the woods...
