Recommended Posts

Im about to vacation in northern California for the next month. First, my wife and I will hang out at the beach in Santa Cruz for a couple of weeks, then well spend a few days in Sacramento visiting the in-laws.

Were going to Calistoga for a spa treatment on our 11-year wedding anniversary (the 4th of July), and then Im off to Dillon Beach for a week to attend a family reunion on my side of the family. How cool is that? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

I really enjoy this forum, so I thought Id let you all know whats up. Ill be around for a few more days, and then I may post a little while Im on vacation, but dont count on it. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Take care,

Hey, that's nice, Soap...I know I think a lot of folks wonder where the frequent posters go when they're quiet for awhile. I've even seen some folks get a bit worried, y'know???

(Jewish Mother voice): Now, drive carefully, don't drive too fast, make sure you write every now and then...be careful where you eat...I hope the food is fresh, take your Immodium in case you eat at a place where the food isn't fresh, did I mention CALL us so we don't worry..(voice trails off...hehehehehe)...

Have fun on your trip! If you're going to Calistoga and don't mind going New Agey au naturel and don't mind that kind of thing, etc. etc., consider going to Harbin Hot Springs, just up the road. Beautiful site, very nice people, and can camp on the grounds. Oh, whoops, just read -- it's the 11-year anniversary, so maybe not appropriate. Okay, scratch that... B&B in Mendocino's a good choice...

I'm off to Peru on the 26th, and then on to Thailand in August!!!!

Ken...

You're the travelin' dude who had all those pictures in Burma and India, right?

Sorry for the non-music related post...but...have you been able to get to Cambodia? I gather it's in a relatively calm state these days...one place I've always wanted to go is to see the Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat Temple complexes. Have you been there?

Tedster, no, I have not been to Angkhor Wat (or whatever the anglicized spelling is for it! ) or Cambodia. I'd love to go at some point!!! We considered going to Cambodia just before going to Burma, but found that it cost a little too much for that trip. Laos would also be interesting at some point.

And yes, I am the one who did the Burma and India slide show. I didn't know that the Burma slide show was up!!!!! I'll have to try and find that!!

If anyone is interested in some of the places I've gone, feel free to stop and look at the Travel section on my web site. I've got a bunch of pictures and text about the trips. I'll put up the Peru and Thailand parts after I return.

My company employs 5 native born Cambodians. Two of them work for me. They are the hardest workers in the plant, and I am proud to call them my friends.

Admittedly, I have only known them for a little over a year, and aside from they're easygoing attitudes and work ethic, I have learned the following:

They enjoy eating monkey brains, preferably while said monkey is only stunned from a whack on the head!

They have a special table with a hole in the middle of it, made just for this purpose.

Marajiuana is very inexpensive there. About $3 to $10 US for a pound. Just don't get caught with any.

One of the men I work work with is a former Bhuddist Monk. Sometime during the Vietnam conflict, his monastery and village was raided by the Khmer Rouge. He and all of the males of the village were taken away to a jungle prison.

For 2 1/2 years, he was tortured daily, eventually broken, and then trained how to fire a weapon. These men were then sent back to their villages, where they shot and killed everyone, including their own families.

How this guy ended up in a glass laminating plant in Southeastern PA, I do not know.

I do know that he is one of the sweetest men I have ever known, with a love of all things colorful and beautiful. He has been known to decorate the fork trucks with colored ribbons and flowers. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/cool.gif

Sorry if that's a downer.

Steve...

I am truly glad the Khmer Rouge is no longer in power. I found it disturbing that Pol Pot was allowed to die a peaceful death from old age. He should have had every inconceivably horrible fate befall him.

However...I truly hope the Cambodians can put that behind them in some fashion, just as every area that has suffered a holocaust has had to. I would still like to see the Temple complexes. I'll have to remember not to smoke the herb there, though...it might give me the munchies and then I'd have to scarf some "chilled monkey brains"...ugghhh...reminds me of that Indiana Jones movie...

Pol Pot is currently choking on the Devil's 29", hot, throbbing,....'unit' !!! (tryin' to keep it clean, ya know?

If they ever let Ted Bundy run the show, you would get the same result.

I apologize for my previous post...

I was enjoying my Father's Day... for once able to relax...thought..."Wow, a vacation"...saw the post...

...and was sad.

In all seriousness... have a good time, Soap.!

I know I would!

The monkey brain "delicacy" is not just in Cambodia, but also in some neighboring countries, including China. It's not a very common thing to do in any of the countries that I know of, but when it is eaten, it's eaten just exactly as described above...

If any of you ever go to Cambodia, be careful of getting off the beaten path due to the unexploded land mines, etc. Go with someone who knows the area if you are visiting outside Angkhor Wat, etc.

The Cambodians I've met so far are incredibly nice!!
