GY
So I installed a MOTU 2408/PCI-324. Cool Edit Pro recognized my new MOTU plus my built-in sound card. Okay, great! Now I fire up Sonar and it just shows the built-in card. I edited the Aud.ini file like they suggest on their "Can't see all your audio devices" document, but it still doesn't "see" the MOTU. My question is, do I have to change the Sonar tab to, " always use MME"? Theses MOTU WDM drivers don't work with Sonar? I apologize for posting my lame-ass computer related questions here, but it's the only place I've been getting answers. Thanks! GY

GY, How's it goin', (not good, from what I gather), Try this first, before re-inventing the wheel! Verify all connections from the 2408 to the PCI card- (firewire cable goes into slot 1, [next to that round, funky looking, I/O port] on the PCI card), and make sure the MOTU box is powered up. Go into your MOTU PCI Console icon, (or in program files+MOTU+PCI Console), make sure bank A,B & C has your MOTU card interfaces listed as "active", hit the "refresh" button at the bottom of the screen, it will then list what & how many interfaces are active. When all is cool there, then open up Sonar, under tools+audio+drivers...(this is the way it looks in Cakewalk-9, so it may look a little different in Sonar), and make sure the I/O drivers for the MOTU card are highlighted (blue by default), then reboot, and run the "wave profiler" in Sonar. While the "wave profiler" is running, you will see each of your cards interfaces saying - "analyizing". If you don't see your MOTU card during this procedure, you need to check in Windows device mgr.+properties, that it says "this device is working properly". You also may need to go into the Windows audio panel settings (double click on the little speaker on the taskbar, the hit the advanced button, etc.) to make sure that the MOTU card is one of the options that Windows can "talk through". The manual talks alot about this and its importantance. let me know what happens, good luck! -Hippie In two days, it won't matter.
Hippie
Also GY, If you are certain you have all your PC/drivers/PCI card/etc. in order, it may be in your best interest to get a conference call going with MOTU & Cakewalk at the same time, of course this has to be scheduled prior to calling, but this has worked well for me in the past when both companies get into a finger pointing match. -Hippie In two days, it won't matter. GY
(Hippie is my son's nickname at high school) I checked all you suggested. Device Mgr says MOTU is working okay, no conflicts. I know the MOTU is hooked up and working okay, because Cool Edit Pro is working with it correctly. Sonar has the problem. The PCI-324 drivers or MOTU aren't showing up as options in Sonar even after running Wave Profiler and editing the Aud.ini file as Sonar suggests. That's why I'm thinking that Sonar won't work with the WDM drivers but will with MME. Maybe I'll get a response from their support, but I'm still waiting for an answer form them about a question asked over two weeks ago. I'm calling them Monday... Thanks! SONAR can't use MME and WDM at the same time, so it's finding your built in card and using it's MME driver, once it does that the Wave profiler will ignore any WDM drivers that it finds...so you'll need to find away to either disable the interanal audio device, or get SONAR to ignore it (can't quite remember how to do this...possibly you could go to Audio Options, disable the drivers for the internal card, then re-profile) -david abraham
GY
David. I tried your advice. I disabled the onboard sound device in device manager and restarted Sonar. It now sees the MOTU 2408! Making headway! But, I need the internal card for internet shit. I don't want that coming through the MOTU or change it with device mgr all the time. I then tried activating the internal card and Sonar reverted back to it's old ways. I'll try and figure out a way for Sonar to ignore the internal card. You guys keep pointing me in the right direction and I appreciate it. GY

This is not all bad, (considering the quirkiness of Windows, & using 2 different sound driver types!) ...I would direct all your internet sounds out the monitor ports of the MOTU (analog 1 & 2), disable the low quality internal sound card, and be done with it. -Hippie In two days, it won't matter. GY
Yeah, Hippie, you might be right! But I'm one stubborn SOB and I will find a way. Especially since Cool Edit Pro doesn't have a problem with the two of them. Me thinks there must be a way. I think it's about time to go have a beer and turn the puters off for the day. Try this: 1) re-enable your onboard sound card 2) In SONAR do Options | Audio | Drivers 3) Disable the internal audio card 4) Reprofile SONAR -david abraham This message has been edited by David Abraham Fenton on 06-10-2001 at 09:25 AM
GY
Hi David. I tried that. If I disable the internal audio card under SONAR do Options | Audio | Drivers, and run Wave Profiler, the MOTU will still not show up. The MOTU will only show up if I disable the internal audio card under Windows Device Manager. It's probably something simple. Windows Device Manager shows no conflicts. Both cards have their own exclusive IRQ. I believe Sonar checks for sound cards every time it starts. Thanks, Greg GY
