-
Originally posted by notape: that's not another marketing scheme is it? No, but I believe Sampson is a hoax. A very *good* hoax, though. His mp3.com page presents him as an alcoholic gym teacher whose wife left him... He paints this sad, lonely picture of his life, trying to get the listener to feel some sympathy for him and his music (which is supposed to be influenced by B.B. King and the Backstreet Boys)... And then you download his songs and they sound like something out of Jabba the Hutt's project studio! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif The DJs at Incorrect Music -- who pride themselves on finding sincere, *unintentionally* bad music -- said they sent Sampson an e-mail and asked him where he got the photo of Jesus on his mp3.com page. He wrote back and said that he bought it off eBay for $300... And that you can tell the photo is from "the old days" because Jesus personally *autographed* the picture on the back. (!!!) So obviously, this guy is having a little bit of fun at the expense of the web surfers who find his mp3.com page... Especially if you were browsing around mp3.com and were expecting to find something in the "R&B/Urban" category... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif This message has been edited by popmusic on 06-04-2001 at 04:37 PM

I think this page sums it Sampson's appeal better than I could: This is "supposedly" a serious artist who (based on his autobiography) is this 36 year old alcoholic teacher who's wife left him etc - he comes across as a hard luck case genuinely trying to put this music across as SERIOUS music. BULLSHIT!!! (and I'll probably burn in hell if I'm wrong) but I believe this is an ACT by someone with quite a sense of humor. NOONE on God's green Earth could possibly be this musically bad. It's intentional. The tip-offs were the slowing down of the voice, drum beats playing 100 beats per minute, while aimlessly strumming an acoustic at 27 beats per minute in no particular key or rhythm - and that VOICE - My God ... I'll be having nightmares for weeks - it literally made my flesh crawl. It is THE most brutal hellish, torturous, "for the love of Jesus, someone please have mercy and shoot this poor agonized dieing animal", God-awful moaning I've ever heard (his goal of singing as much out of key as is physically possible by a human being - coupled with the slowing down of his voice he does helps produce this effect). I wholeheartedly believe that someone who could produce this music wouldn't even have the capability of going to the bathroom by themselves - yet alone - record this, mix this, and upload this to an internet site. I'm not saying this to be mean or denegrate someone's music - I fully believe in my heart this is a JOKE - though he tries to come across on his artist page like he's DEAD serious with all these personal troubles he has. BULLSHIT! Quite a sense of humor this guy has. I nearly had a heart attack and went into convulsions when I heard this music. I never laughed so hard in my life. The tears were streaming down my face. I literally couldn't believe my own ears. **** WARNING **** FOR THOSE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH HEARING THE SOUNDS OF A HUMAN BEING - BEING SLOWLY TORTURED TO DEATH - DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS SONG! In all my life I am estimating I've heard several hundred thousand songs - This is by FAR the WORST thing I have ever heard in my life. That was a funny practical joke there Sampson! *wink*
Notape_dup1
Does mp3.com know about this Sampson character? All joking aside, mp3.com is full of artists who care about music and want to get their music published and here is this joker making a mockery of the whole thing by trying to sound as bad as possible. Shit, I can do that (except I wouldn't have to try as hard) I take it there is no regulation on how good your music has to be in order to make it to mp3.com. The thing that gets me is that Sampson has $257.96 in mp3 earnings, WTF? you mean to tell me that this kaboosh is actually making money? pardon my french but, fucking A!!. I know that this is beside the point of this discussion, maybe I should start a new thread regarding this Sampson character, and then again, It ain't worth it. Fuckum, I can make more than that in a day (anyone wanna buy a kidney?) Pardon the rant, aahhh....I feel better now peace, -nt
