Mastering software under $300.00

Recommended Posts

I searched this and other forums and I found some old threads, but not good enough info. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I heard T-RackS is good, I'm also considering SoundForge 5.0, nothing fancy just something simple for a rookie like me.

I'm not trying to master, or replaced mastering I 'm just trying to make my recordings sound a little bit better and learn in the process.

TC Finalizer Express, http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/tongue.gif not as easy as they say, I returned the thing I'm buying software and some mic preamps, and compressor/limiters etc.,

Thanks

ViLo

I use SEK'D Samplitude 2496. You can get it in three different versions. For 2-track mastering, all you need is Red Roaster (aka Samplitude Master). It lists for $399, but you can get it for $200 from a number of different vendors, including mediastore.com .

Not only is Samplitude a great tracking/editing/mixing/mastering tool, but it also burns CDs directly from the application, allowing you to drop in track and index markers right into your Samplitude session files.

In the past year, I've owned and tried Cakewalk, Cubase, Pro Tools FREE, and Samplitude. All the others crashed my Win98 and Win2k machines so many times, I found them too annoying to keep (although Cakewalk crashed far less than the others). On the other hand, Samplitude has crashed maybe once or twice in the past several months.

You can download a fully functional demo of Samplitude before you decide to purchase it.

ViLo !

I am a SOUND FORGE fan. However, WITHOUT the right DirectX Plug Ins, SF will not do the job you want. So you will have to but SF AND some Mastering / EQ Plug In. I Higly recommend SF and the most plug ins you can.

T-RACKS is a GREAT tool too. It runs (the version I have) as a stand alone application. Since it includes a "valve" EQ and Compressor / Limiter, you can experiment a lot with real time results, just like having the actual hardware and it sounds amazing.

Between these two options, I do preffer Sound Forge WITH a lot of PlugIns. Once you got it, then get T-Racks ... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Thanks Gus!

I just want something simple,If I get Sound Forge it will be the Studio XP 5.0 just to bring levels up, and spice it a little bit, I'm still checking out SEK'D and T-RackS.

ViLo,

If your on a budget than do yourself a favor and checkout Cool Edit 2000. It's shareware and cost about $99 to register I believe. With some of Syntrilliums option plug-ins it will do pretty much everything that you'd ever need. Ultimately Wavelab is probably your best bet, but this runs a little over $300 if I remember correctly.

T-Racks only emulates analog mastering comp/limiters,no editing per se,Cool edit and Sound Forge suffer from no real time effects.Wavelab does it all and comes with a really nice com/limiter plugin.
