MYST3:EXILE........BOO!

Recommended Posts

i dont normally play computer games. in fact, since the "atari" days, i have only played myst, riven, and duke nukem http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

when MYST3:EXILE came out i was extatic! i had to rush out and buy this game!

i paid $60 for it, the collectors edition.

BOO!

maybe the game is good, but you cant hardly play it. the graphics are jerky as sin, sometimes just frozen, the audio doesnt track the video at all, and when people speak to you the audio is intermittent and jerky if there at all. several clues are hard to see, because the graphics are so bad.

i thought that maybe it was just my computer to slow, but i went to their web site and they have a forum just like this one, and low and behold: everyone is having this problem, even 1.1GHZ athlons and 733G4's!!!

the problem is that the video is not compressed, rendered real-time, plus 4 tracks of audio. this will bog down any computer if the code is not optimized, which aperently it is not.

they are being very arrogant about this problem, blaming it on slow computers, but if 1.1ghz athlons and 733g4's cant chug it, what in the heck can?

i am very disapointed in this game.

dont buy it unless they somehow fix this, which i doubt they can.

itsNOT made by the same people that made the last two games in the series, its someone new.

it was released too early IMHO if it does not work on any computer.

sheesh.

Coaster,

Wow, I'm really surprised! I got Myst III last week, and have had NO problems whatsoever with the graphics or music - things are smooth and fluid. I use the software emulation for the 3D mode, and my CPU is an old 400mhz P-II; hardly a speed demon!

I haven't seen the other postings yet, but this seems odd - I wouldn't think they would release it with such an obvious problem as you describe...so there must be some additional factors.

I think a Graphics Accelerator card has a huge impact on gameplay - perhaps even greater than that of the CPU itself . . . not just a video card, but an accelerator. (I know it makes a difference for Ground Control, at least)

What kind of accelerator works with what kind of program, I don't know, though - what kind do you have?

I have an Intel 810 chipset in my home computer (a budget piece of crap).

I pre-ordered the collectors edition of MystIII. when I got it home I couldn't even run the game at all. After waiting for a week for Ubi-soft to issue a patch I finally got tired and broke down and bought a new 32MB graphics card (e-Ge FORCE2 MX)(it bypasses the 810 chipset on the motherboard). I also added an additional 128 megs of ram. Now this cheap piece of crap runs Myst III beautifully.

Now back to the music.
