profesrgeo
Hi All, I'm leaving for Memphis this evening for a friends wedding. I ain't never been there before. Any hot tips for music and food? Thanks in advance, geo
Steve LeBlanc
Just go to Beale street, it's easy to find and there are a number of good restaurants/clubs. I was born and raised in Memphis, I miss it often until I start remembering 110 degree heat with 95% humidity...I think I'll stay in Los Angeles now http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif. If you have time...check out Mud Island...it's cool. http://www.youtube.com/notesleb
dansouth
Cool! Always wanted to go, but I've never taken the time. Put a copy of Marc Cohn's "Walking in Memphis" in your walkman to get you in the mood. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Tusker
You might try to catch the ducks at the Peabody Hotel during happy hour. They are the pride of the hotel and something eveyone enjoys seeing. They troop up to the rooftop in the morning and back down to sleep at night. For food, the local cuisine is Barbecue, which means pulled (shredded) pork primarily. However, The Rendezvous (across the street from the Peabody) is famous for it's dry ribs. My favorite Bbcue was at Corky's, (they have an outstanding shrimp plate) some other people prefer Leonards. I ran a project in Memphis a few years ago and the team went out to lunch every day to rate all the Bbcue restaurants. These were our finalists. I went on a diet after that project http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif Cheers, Jerry ------------------ www.tuskerfort.com

Hippie
If you have the time, check out Graceland, if you're into that sort of thing. The jungle room alone is worth the price of admission. Thank ya, thank ya very much, -Hippie In two days, it won't matter.
Hippie
And lets not forget about Sun Studio. In two days, it won't matter.
mojo_jojo
I grew up in Memphis. This is a great time of the year to be there. Its possible that BBQ-fest or Music-fest is going on (all part of "Memphis in May"- a month-long excuse to drink.) You might try going to Ernestine and Hazel's. The place used to be a brothel. Its very cool bar, although it might be full of drunk debutantes this time of the year. Beale Street seems to be mandatory, I guess. If Reba Wilson or Rufus Thomas are playing at B.B. King's- you're in luck. If you're really adventurous, drive to Clarksdale, MS for the real thing. There aren't any juke-joints on Beale anymore. If you're a guitar player, you might check out Rod and Hanks. They sell vintage guitars. Its in the Mid America Mall, near the Peabody. At least, worth a look. Have fun
