cressionametro.net
I would like to use my laptop to control changes in my DM-5 drum module live. It's a pain in the ass to use the jog wheel and it's too slow. I have purchased a Midiman (Midisport 2X2) to access the USB port on my lap top. What software do I need to make this happen? I currently own Cakewalk 7, Cooledit pro, will one of these work and how do I make it work? Thanks Jeff ------------------

If you just want to do some program changes driven by your sequencer, It is easier than what you'd imagine. Do you use Cake for sequencing, right? In a CAKEWALK sequence you always have to select 1) A MIDI port to drive the DM 5 (PORT Column) 2) A MIDI channel and (Channel Column) 3) A program (patch) number from 00 to 19 (Program number Column. DM-5 has 20 user "banks" *programs or patches*) 4) Set your cakewalk to enable it to send program change commands. Well... If you need a program change in the middle of the sequence (which means, the DM5 loading a different percussion set) just INSERT a PROGRAM CHANGE command in you event editor in Cakewalk with the number of desired "patch". For something deeper, you'll have to learn about using SYSEX commands. It will allow you to forget about banks by just loading your sequence and it will call instantly all the parameters you want for your DM5. However this would not be as easy to explain right here. Hope it could help ya.
