Throatsinger
Greetings, I'll be teaching an introductory Khoomei, or Tuvan Throat-Singing workshop at my home in Mpls. on Saturday, 5-19. Topics will include all major styles of khoomei. Ever wanted to learn how to sing 2-3 notes at the same time? This is your chance! Class size will be limited to 12 to keep things intimate. If you're interested, either post here or contact me at bigsky@bigskyrocks.com Steve Sklar/Big Sky Steve Sklar http://khoomei.com http://www.bigskyrocks.com
Tedster
Hey Steve, Can this be done on the web, or do we have to attend in person? "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

Throatsinger
Mzeger, hahahaha! It's quality, not quantity. Everyone knows that the original Tube Larynx is the best! None of that crappy digital aliasing, fuller low end, and the distortion kills http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif Tedster, not yet. But soon we're moving the site to khoomei.com, and part of the redo will include video lessons. Till then, if interested, the best place to go is the Yahoo Throat-Singing Club at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/tuvanthroatsinging Steve Steve Sklar http://khoomei.com http://www.bigskyrocks.com
KenElevenShadows
I'm a little too far to attend, but it sounds like fun! I also really like the Sigit style of throat singing! There are some fine examples of this on "Spirit of the Steppes" and some fine examples of throat singing (especially the song "Mouth Music") on "Instruments and Vocals of Mongolia" (I think that's the title). ------------------ Ken/Eleven Shadows/d i t h er/nectar ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ music*travel photos*tibet*lots of stuff "Sangsara" "Irian Jaya" & d i t h er CDs available! http://www.elevenshadows.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ken Lee Photography - photos and books Eleven Shadows ambient music The Mercury Seven-cool spacey music Linktree to various sites Instagram Nightaxians Video Podcast Eleven Shadows website Ken Lee Photography Pinterest Page
Throatsinger
Hi Ken, Thanks for the tip. I don't have that one. Like sygyt? You can hear mine on the songs, "Fire in the Water" and "Siberia" at mp3.com/bigsky , and I've got some samples of my Tuvan "brats" up at http://www.atech.org/khoomei/hht/ I'm planning on being out in S. California in June, and will be doing some lessons, would consider a workshop too if someone local wants to organize something. Lemme know! Graham English
I'd love to attend if I was anywhere near you. Ever since you hipped me to it I've been practicing- with not much luck. I would love lessons. I'll check the site you mentioned above. KenElevenShadows
Oh, I forgot to mention that I played a couple of tracks from both of the aforementioned CDs on KXLU, a college radio station here in Los Angeles, doing a fill-in for this specialty show. This was my first radio show as a DJ -- fun being on the other side of the mic! Also, i didn't quite get the title of the second CD exactly right. It's actually "Vocal and Instrumental Music of Mongolia" (recorded by Jean Jenkins). I was at work before and didn't have the CD directly in front of me. I could possibly consider hosting something, but I am not sure if I have the time to actually organize something. Contact me later, and we'll see about it! ------------------ Ken/Eleven Shadows/d i t h er/nectar ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ music*travel photos*tibet*lots of stuff "Sangsara" "Irian Jaya" & d i t h er CDs available! http://www.elevenshadows.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ken Lee Photography - photos and books Eleven Shadows ambient music The Mercury Seven-cool spacey music Linktree to various sites Instagram Nightaxians Video Podcast Eleven Shadows website Ken Lee Photography Pinterest Page
Throatsinger
Trans, Good to see you at the throat-singing club. I just responded to your post. Hey, my wife's headed to Nederland right now for a workshop; too bad I couldn't make this one. Ken, a workshop on this trip doesn't seem too likely, though if you'd be up for hosting a small one, there might be a few that want to attend. Where do you live? At any rate, I'll be in SD-LA from about June 9-18, so lemme know if you'd like to get together. KenElevenShadows
>> Just visited yer website (very cool), and am listening to Nectar at mp3.com Great stuff; did you record this? I didn't see you in the credits.>> Oh, I probably used a pseudonym so it would appear like it was being "produced". Yes, I recorded the whole thing. The whole band had a hand in the final outcome, though, so the overall feel is a bit different than if I would have "produced" it overall (I don't really like to refer to myself as a producer or an engineer, which is why I keep putting "produced" in quotes ). >> Is there any elevenshadows music online? Yes, there is! It's on MP3.com also, although I think it's mostly the instrumental stuff from "Sangsara" and "Irian Jaya". I am going to try and put some MP3s on the web at some point, but I just got a new computer and am still trying to work some things outs, so it's going to be a few weeks!!! I think the url is something like http://www.mp3.com/elevenshadows, but I don't remember. There should be a link on my Links Page to the site, though! >> I'm probably gonna get up to LA, and will definately be in So. Cal for over a week, it'd be cool to hook up, if yer up for it...>> Yes, absolutely! I live in the West LA/Westwood area. Why don't you email me at elevenshadows@yahoo.com and we can work out the details (I don't have your email address). Also, I am going to leave for Peru on June 26th, so hopefully you will be visiting before then. Thank you for the warm comments on the web site and Nectar!!! ------------------ Ken/Eleven Shadows/d i t h er/nectar ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ music*travel photos*tibet*lots of stuff "Sangsara" "Irian Jaya" & d i t h er CDs available! http://www.elevenshadows.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ken Lee Photography - photos and books Eleven Shadows ambient music The Mercury Seven-cool spacey music Linktree to various sites Instagram Nightaxians Video Podcast Eleven Shadows website Ken Lee Photography Pinterest Page

Heheheh, Steve Actually I'd love to attend such a cool thing but I live in Montreal(Quebec) and I never did the air miles thing so it's unrealistic right now. Maybe some other time. Throatsinger
Bummer, Emile.
