JingleJungle
Hi guys...what is the exact difference between Logic Gold and Logic Platinum? I have been offered a cross upgrade from Gold to Platinum (from PC to Mac) andthe salesman said that its' "more complete"... unfortunately Emagic's website did not offer me any real info on the matter. Just another question...do you think it's possible to run simultaneously Reason AND Logic Platinum on a PowerbookG3 400 / 512Mb? Thx & peace... dansouth
Go to http://www.emagic.de and look at the comparison charts that they have for their sequencers. In a nutshell, Platinum supports TDM systems, Gold does not. Platinum has a few more plug-ins and allows you to record audio on multiple hardware platforms simultaneously. Gold does not support 24/96, but Platinum does. I recently bought a copy of Platinum, but I've been using Gold for years with good results. JingleJungle
Dan- Thx for yr reply...must be alzheimer..I had never seen that page on Emagic's site http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif! Re. running multiple apps on a PowerBook G3...how many apps do you thinks it would be possible to open simultaneously? In my most extreme case I would probably be running: Logic (GLD or PLT), Sounddiver 3.0, Reason, Koan (check them out on http://www.sseyo.com): Is there anybody who has experience using a 400 G3 and running multiple apps? Thanks again! Paul JingleJungle ...Hoobiefreak
dansouth
The things that will bog your system down the most at (1) the number of audio tracks you want to play simultaneously, and (2) the number of plugins you use. If you can keep these numbers low, you shouldn't have any problems. I don't think the disk on a Powerbook will support zillions of tracks, anyway. I've heard that Reason and Logic have some issues that are to be resolved in a future release. You might want to ask Emagic tech support for details. Emagic usually resolves such issues promptly. At a minimum, you can create grooves in Reason and export them as either audio files of MIDI files, so you still have a lot of possibilities for merging the two applications. Logic and Reason are both phenomonal tools. You should have a lot of fun with this setup.
JingleJungle
Thanks Dan.... I forgot to specify that I would be running more than else MIDI stuff instead of audio. I'll probably trigger the odd sample here and there directly from the G3 but most of the stuff shall be MIDI and assorted CC's. Anderton
My experience with Reason is that it's coded VERY efficiently. It seems I can keep it open with just about anything else. Make sure you have a lot of RAM in your system, programs seem to like that. JingleJungle
Cragi- frankly speaking, nowadays you don't understand what's supposed to be "enough" RAM... I'm gonna be running 512Mb, but apparently some apps are real hogs. When you look at the "minimum requirements" detailed by the manufacturers, it appears that certain programs can run on a Intel 133 Mhz / 64Mb. In reality the efficiency level is reached at MUCH higher ratios of memory and processor speed. Hence all these - apparently dumb - questions... Thanks for all the help... Ciao from Switzerland! Philip OKeefe
I run Logic Platinum 4.7 on a 933 MHz PC with 384 MB RAM - I noticed a BIG improvement when I went from 128 MB (works, but slow) to 256 MB (functional) to 384 (FAST!). If you use Logic, don't scrimp on the RAM.
