Blze
I was recording a group yesterday when this strange sparkling sound came when I was recording the guitars. Its really a disturbing sound. Something between digital and a bad cable sound but it wasn't. Like sparkling electricity sound. Was wondering if somebody have had this problem. Ethan Winer
Bl@ze, >I was recording a group yesterday when this strange sparkling sound came when I was recording the guitars. < Maybe you simply had the record level too high and it was distorting? Digital distortion is very nasty, unlike cassette recorders that gradually get worse and worse as you go louder and louder. With digital it's clean right up to the point where it sounds terrible! --Ethan The acoustic treatment experts Ethan's Audio Expert Book
Blze
I went down to listen to it today and notice that the sound came whenever it wanted to. Can it do with the harddrive or the soundcard..I have a Terratec 88mt soundcard. The levels were fine when I was recording. Later I listened to some old stuff I recorded and the sound was still there. Even with old stuff...STRANGE

If you can better explan what the bad sound really is, maybe that will give me or someone else here a clue. But I can tell you that a PC has to be optimized for audio recording. Mostly these optimizations involve disabling programs that run in the background - like Microsoft Office's FindFast and antivirus programs. When a program runs in the background it may access the disk and take the computer's attention away from the audio recording or playback. And when that happens you can get a dropout in the audio. Maybe this is what's happening? --Ethan The acoustic treatment experts Ethan's Audio Expert Book
Blze
It sounds like an old record combined with digital disturbance.I don't know hoe else I can describe it. I have no virus program nor office package. When I do a mixdown of the tracks the strange sound has disappears.Does anyone know were I can find information to optimize my pc for recording? Settings etc etc!
lockbody
The RME-Audio website has a lot of tuning tips http://rme-audio.com This is a direct link to the doc you want on optimizing your pc for low latentcy operation. http://www.rme-audio.com/english/techinfo/lola/lola.htm Bob

Sounds like you must increase buffer sizes and latency. Options/audio setup/system, there you can access the stuff. You must experiment for the best combination- I change mine all the time, low latency for playing in midi, high for playback (no crackles) etc. Cubase renders "offline", so your playback stuttering, probably your problem, doesn't show up. Once you have a lot of plugins, fx, tracks, etc., it gets harder for the computer to play it back cleanly. - CB
David R.
Could be a wordclock issue. Do you have the sparkle plugin enabled? -David R. -David R.
