johnnyproaol.com
Hello all, I have a project I'm doing restoring some 20year old cassettes for a client, and making CD's for him. Anyone done this before?? Can anyone give me some tips, and a suggestion on software for de-hissing the wav files? Thanx!!! JP
Lee Flier
Get Cool Edit and the optional noise reduction plug-in - it's tops! I've been using it on all my old cassettes. Available from http://www.syntrillium.com --Lee
Uh Clem
Sonic Foundry's Noise Reduction plug-in is amazing - a miracle. Works in any Windows directX app - Sound Forge Wavelab, etc... Guest
I'll second the opinion on Cool Edit. If you can isolate about any hiss, buzz, pop, click, etc, it'll remove it with ease.
Dylan
Both are kick-ass tools. The advantage with the Sonic Foundry plug-in is that you can preview the results in real-time, where I don't think that Cool Edit gives you that option. You can't go wrong either way. -Dylan
Lee Flier
Yes Dylan, the latest version of Cool Edit does allow real-time preview. Not that I'm dissing Sonic Foundry either! Either one does a great job. --Lee
Dylan
Thanks for the info, Lee. Can you specify how long the preview will go for like you can in Sound Forge? I've got CEP at home, so I guess that I should get off my lazy ass and just try it.
