D. Gauss
peavey motormix-anybody familiar with this thing? 8 channels of motorized faders, kind of a poor-man's motormix. except unlike the peavey 1600x, it only wants to talk to cakewalk! i'd like to use it as a generic controller, as i don't use cakewalk. peavey and cakewalk are keeping their mouths shut about the midi specs (plus it is no longer made...hmmmm) any help appreciated. thanks in advance d. gauss
Dylan
Cakewalk didn't design StudioMix as a general purpose controller, so it might be tricky to use it with other applications. You might try recording the fader and knob movements in Cakewalk to find out their controller values in the event list. Besides that, you might try the Cakewalk newsgroup at news.cakewalk.com. You'll need a news reader like Netscape or Outlook Express to get there. Good luck, Dylan
Anderton
The Studio Mix was designed solely to be used with Cakewalk. It uses NRPNs (non-registered parameter numbers) instead of standard MIDI controllers. However, hang in there - more and more devices are being made that work along similar lines. For example, Mackie will be doing a very similar device for Logic. StudioMix was actually very cool, but ahead of its time...and I don't think Peavey knew quite how to promote it. Alndln
If you don't have Cakewalk get a demo and like Dylan said, record some fader movements and see what they are in the edit page.Although I'm probably wrong,I find it hard to believe that it's not sending CC#7 for volume. D. Gauss
yeah the studiomix only sends midi nrpn data. does anybosy know of a software application that can remap nrpn to regular controller commands quickly and easily? i've been able to remap a lot of the studiomix commands manually by using the freeware "midi-ox" program that lets you redirect things, but it takes forever. ideally, i want the studiomix to control the c-console software for the yamaha dsp factory. if i could do it, i'd have a rockin' control surface http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif -vd
