Guest
another thing that caught my eye at NAMM. Have not heard anyone else mention this one yet. Summit TLA50 1/2 rack version of a TLA100 tube compressor. The guy said it has the same opto compression circuit & the tubes operate at the same high voltage as the 100. Said that the TLA100 has been around long enough that they can now afford to make a less expensive version, and sell it for less. Still looking for the catch, but have not found it yet. List: $695!!!!!!!! (single channel)
Guest
just looked at the spec sheet- says that the output stage is discrete transistor at 24volt rails. I am not sure if this is diiferent that the tla100, but it still looks promissing.
Philip OKeefe
OKAY! Hey Scott, thanks for sharing this! The TLA is one of my all time favorite "compressors" ("tube levelling amp"). If you have not heard one of these folks, this is a MAJOR piece of gear! If it IS exactly the same circuit, I'm in for at least four of these puppies. At that price (which is WAY less than half of the TLA100's list of $1,700.00), I can afford it! Anyone know what the projected ship date is? Nice of Summit (after recouping their R&D costs) to pass a deal like this on to all of us. Philip OKeefe
No one else is interested in these new puppies? Great - more for me! I'm still excited - Whooopppieeeee! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif Then again, it would be nice if I could get into Summit's web site - it's been giving me errors for the past two days... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gif Phil O'Keefe Sound Sanctuary Recording Riverside CA http://members.aol.com/ssanctuary/index.html email: pokeefe777@msn.com
Philip OKeefe
Okay everyone who's interested (namely me and Scott from the looks of things http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif ) Here's a copy of an email I got from Paul Grove at Summit in response to my questions. Hi Phil, I don't have any 'official' information to send out as of yet, but I can tell you a bit about the little guy. It's a 1/2 rack space unit, and uses almost exactly the same circuitry as the TLA-100A, minus the Jensen 990 output device (we use our own, all discrete output). The meter is a little different, not quite as accurate as we actually use two complete compression circuits on the TLA and DCL to make sure the meters are perfect. It's still excellent, though. The back panel features those cool Neutrik XLR/ 1/4" connectors, so the TLA-50 will automatically set your levels between -10 and +4dB in any combination (nice little tube 'bump-box'). Still stereo linkable, side chain access, internal power supply (no wall wart). Selecting bypass, the audio still passes through the 12AX7A, so the TLA-50 can be used as a warming device without compression. It will probably start shipping in early March, maybe as early as the end of February. And yes, list price is $695. I can't wait to hear one! We have the design all laid out, we just need to start production. Feel free to stay in touch; I can give you updates as they get closer to reality. And don't be mistaken, I'll own 4 of these puppies myself! Thanks for the inquiry, Paul M.
