Tascam TDM 1000 Digital Mixer?

Recommended Posts

Anyone familiar with the Tascam TDM 1000 Digital Mixer? I'm looking for something mainly (but not exclusively) to interface with MOTU 2408 mkII/Mac setup, to avoid mixing with the mouse.

GC is moving 'em for US$499.00, seems like a good price.

Thanks,

Hey there!

I'm back..... for the moment.

It's been a bad week.... NAMM and kidney stones! Ouch! Hospital food sucks!

I own a TMD-1000... what do you want to know?

I like it...

The user interface is not great.. you need to go through the little LCD a lot.

The converters are OK, I don't use the effects. Mainly, I'm using this board as a format converter... TDIF,AES,SPDIF. For $500 it's worth it for just the format conversion.

Everything is MIDI controllable so you can automate it completely.

If you want to wait Tascam is coming out with a new version for about $3000 with moving faders, LOTS of I/O, speaker and amp modeling, and lots of other stuff. Very cool... depends on what you can afford.

Let me know what else you want to know!

Cheers!

PS: Feel free to start a new thread about ancient music in the other forum. You lead.. I'll follow... I've just had a busy week! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Thanks, Valky! Sorry to hear yer ill http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gif Watch that hospital food; it's enough to give you kidney stones http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Interface: Not great is, well, ok. Terrible isn't... which one?

I guess I'd mostly be using a MIDI-USB connection for mixing on the mac...tried that function yet? That's #1.

New mixer: It's s'posed to be cool, for sure! And I probably could wait for it to come out, but it'll be a longer wait on the $3k!

We'll pick up on that thread later, cuz I've been under the weather and too busy, too.

Heal up and feel better quick,

Steve

Steve:

I'd second the idea of waiting for the new DM-24, since it's going to be a heck of a lot more mixer for the money. Since you're running a 2408, you might want more than 8 channels of TDIF I/O on your board, right? Doesn't the MOTU support 24 channels of TDIF? If so, the Tascam DM-24 is going to be a much better idea for you. My advice is to save your money (they'll drop from the $2,999.00 list price soon enough after release so you'll be able to get one discounted) and get what you REALLY want rather than getting the '1000 now and have to lose money when you try to either trade it in on the DM-24 or sell it.

Sorry to hear you have been sick. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Val, kidney stones are a major drag. I've never had one, but my Dad has, and so has my wife. She said they're worse than giving birth! So, sorry you're feeling bad, and hope your recovery is quick and as pain free as possible!

if you're using the mixer for software control and not for a total I/O solution, you might want to consider the world of software controllers out there.

tascam makes the US-428 USB controller, a 24/48 board with unlimited banks of 8 faders, and it's $500 at sweetwater (i think).

event makes a USB controller, the EZ bus, with 24/96 and ADAT + S/PDIF. it's more expensive, but it has an LCD.

for digital boards, i've also been looking into the fostex VM200, but i'm not sure if it uses MMC, and i'm almost 100% certain it isn't USB. Roland makes a VM3100 that does use MMC, but i also don't think it's USB. it is a 12x8 digital mixer.

i urge you to check out all of these products, but it sounds like you'll really want to get a software controller instead of a digital board, with all the channels you'll be wrestling.

Ahmen.... I think my hospital is getting a really good deal on cream of wheat.... yuck...

Interface: Not great is, well, ok. Terrible isn't... which one?[/b]

Hmmm... rating of 1 to 10... 10 being perfect... I'd say about a 6.5

If you set it up and then save a snap shot you can avoid the LCD more....

Methinks you are confused....

The TMD-1000 has no USB option. It only has standard MIDI IN/OUT/THROUGH.

Tascam also makes the US-428 which is a sound card with a control surface. I own one of those as well.... talk to me about your needs... I'm not sure what you are looking for and what you already have...

New mixer: It's s'posed to be cool, for sure! And I probably could wait for it to come out, but it'll be a longer wait on the $3k![/b]

It would be an even longer wait if you had to go to the hospital for kidney stones! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif I gots lots 'o bills coming my way...... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gif
