wdnunn1msn.com
Just got this new computer and would like a little advice on some programs for midi and rec. I've downloaded cakewalk 9 and it seems pretty easy. Just dont know how it stacks up with the rest. A few people i have talked to say logic 4.5 and a delta 10-10 is all i need. I would really like some input from you guys that have messed with this stuff and know first hand. Also, will i be happy with this micron puter for this application. It has an AMD, 1000 mhz processor with 128 mb of memory. The hd is 40 gig i think. I still have a few days to trade this thing in on another one if need be. The guy at the store said the athlon processor is faster than most out there besides the p-4 so thats why i got it. Its darn fast compared to the web tv ive had for the past 2 years !! Thanks for the help in advance guys... wdnunn.........
Guest
I'm really not in a position due to running a very very old and low end system, an AMD 586-133 with 16 meg to offer much help but perhaps I can offer encouragement. I run a very low end and inexpensive shareware multitrack program, n-Track Studio, run old versions of popular editors, Cool Edit 96, Sound Forge 4.0, WaveLab 2.2 run a watered Down version of Cakewalk, Express Gold 6.0 and render each and every of my midi tracks to digital performances using Audio Compositor (not in real time of course). I'm not gonna pretend I can do what some of the guys around here can do with the gear they have but with a lot of diligence I get respectable results. The machine you have should allow you to do anything. Try the demos till you find the programs you can work with, read all you can on the digital recording process, practice it and you'll find the world is your pallete. rumpelstiltskin.
i am a registered cakewalk user, since i bought home studio 5 a few years ago. i am upgrading to pro suite (version9) with no fears. i know a lot of people use pro tools; it is the defacto professional platform. but i am buying cakewalk for two reasons. first being that i cannot afford pro tools without a loan from a bank. second, that i know cakewalk, i am familiar with how it works, and after doing research and reading the unbiased opinions of a lot of people, i am convinced it is the superior product for me. so if you're satisfied with cakewalk, buy it. it has all of the techincal capabilities you'll need, and unless a major label artists strolls through your door demanding pro tools, you probably won't hear any client complaints. robb. because i like people.
