Tom Aragon
1967 (Old guy here http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/eek.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/eek.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/eek.gif ) That year just sort of sticks out for me as having an impact on while I was learning how to play. I don't claim it to be the best year or whatever just one that's highly memorable. And You? Tom
Guest
1972 - the year I was born http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif. Just kidding, I really don't have a favorite year in music, years that really stick out as monumental for me are way before I was born. 1944-50: Aaron Copeland (Appalachian Spring), Miles, Bird, Dizzy, Max, Thelonious 1959-60: Miles (Kind of Blue) and many others get deeper into chord clusters and complex rhythms, oh and Elvis was still cool. 1967-70: Well y'know 1970-78: There was TONS of incredible music made during these years and recording got real good. 1980-90: There was some good music during these years mostly by Minimalists and Jazz Progressives but it was a real difficult time for me. 1991-present: I can count on 1 hand the artists that I heard on the radio that got me to listen more than once. There IS a lot of cool independent music out there but it seems there are very few bands compared to the past. Lots of solo artists.

alphajerk
i'll have to go with 2002. even if an artist were to blow this year and kill all this crappy music, i could see music starting to boil over a year or two following. alphajerk FATcompilation "if god is truly just, i tremble for the fate of my country" -thomas jefferson
soapbox
1972-1976 When FM radio was young, DJs could play what they wanted to, and Progressive Rock and Jazz fusion were at their peak. I expect something similar in 2004-2010 When high bandwidth on the internet is accessed by lots of people who listen to a wide variety of music which was locked out of the now tight FM, MTV etc. playlists, and musicians find a way to make a profit while being experimental and creative. Guest
Old guy here too. I'd never be able to narrow down to a favorite year. Personally I find the whole 70's decade exciting in my experience. I really don't want to say that was when the best music was made. I think that would be a narrow minded and self limiting opinion. A better opinion would be that that was the time when I had realized I wanted to develop a professional level of musicianship, thus I was very excitable and eager to enjoy and study a wide variety of styles, of which there seemed to be an abundant supply of in the 70's. The 70's was when I developed my personal self-definition of what I thought a musician should be... I guess my personal/individual culture. I'd be an idiot to say that I found no good music thru the 80's, 90's and this new decade or that expect I won't find good music in the future. I say that I've found much less of what I personally like by definition of the individual culture I established for my self, now many years ago. I think it's a normal human response to feel like this about music or anything in different time periods, a normal response to aging, clinging to what appears to be comfortably safe. I also think (at least hope) I'm old enough and wise enough to know that I need to have complete control of that urge to stick to the narrow path if I want to continue growth as an artist. ------------------ William F. Pro Jules
The 60's and early 70's in rock music at least often had one toe in the anti Vietnam war 'peace movement' one issue that united a lot of counter-cultural folks both enjoying & making music. The 80's seemed to stand for 'I wanna bigger car' and not much more... The opening bars of Henrdix's "All around the watchtower" still conjure up immages of GI's smokeing pot from an upside down rifle with the bullet cartridge packed with grass... That and combat footage. At 40 I am too young to get rightiously 'nostalgic'. But there did seem a brief time when pot smoking and rock music had a hand in changing the world. Now what? I find myself in a pretty unsavory buisness, but I like the melody, and young spirit of the acts I work with. fuck it, I've started , so I will finish...
