Well, I've posted enough here, I may as well introduce myself

Howdy!

My name is Helen, aka Shaky Tee. I'm a singer/songwriter/MIDI fanatic who occasionally dabbles on guitar. Steve Sklar was nice enough to point me, and others, to this forum.

I live in San Francisco in a TINY apartment with my husband and two cats. I've been singing and writing songs for most of my life. I was never much of a four track person. My first attempts to record were as a teenager, and all of my overdubs sounded like I was singing in the middle of an airport runway. I FINALLY got into the digital recording end of it last year, when I discovered I could actually do some recording out of my computer.

This was the start of a long and sometimes arduous journey of recording, engineering (and I use that word loosely) and mixing my music. I do everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) out of a Compaq Presario 7814 with a 500 Mhz processor, in which I installed my Soundblaster Live card. I use Band-In-The Box, Cakewalk Home Studio, Powertracks Pro Audio, Soundfonts, N-Tracks Multitrack Recorder with a LOT of plugins, Cool Edit 2000, an Oktava MK-319 condenser mic, a Behringer 802A mixer, a Roland EM-10 keyboard/midi controller, a Yamaha acoustic guitar, and...hmm...I think that's about it...for now.

I don't have a lot of room, and I don't have a lot of cash, so my upgrades have been sparing at best (mostly software downloads, purchases, etc.). I'm looking to add a few more goodies to my collection, but, given my space and budget, I have to keep it small, and as a result, I have to make the most of what I've got.

While I think I've done reasonably well, given the equipment that i have, I can ALWAYS stand some improvement, which is why I'm glad I found this forum. I've already gotten some ideas on what to do.

Oh, I also do a weekly internet radio show on Artistlaunch.com called Divas and Dames, showcasing women's music on the internet.

Anyway, I hope to share whatever extremely limited amount of knowledge I have regarding digital recording, and vice versa.

Thanks all for putting up with me.

Regards,

Shaky Tee

Hello and welcome, Helen, aka Shaky Tee...

That sounds like a hip-hop handle. If I were a hip-hop dude, I'd be borrowing my handle from a Little Caesar's box for the Wednesday special...

Dansouth: Howdy! Well, I am sorry to disappoint you, but, er, no. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif It'd be an honor, tho'.

Tedster: Yep, it does sound like a hip-hop handle, tho' I don't really do all that much hip-hop!

I haven't been in a Little Cesear's in a LONG time!!! I used to live near one in Daly City. Ahhh...the memories...

Steve,

The project is in the mastering studio now. I handed it over and said: OK...make me sound like the Bon Jovi "Slippery When Wet" album.

Honestly, I'm curious as hell to hear the end result. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif
