Famous reunions?

Recommended Posts

Okay, you've been given the power to "mend fences"...patch up rifts and creative differences between "artistes". Unfortunately, this will only work on musicians, so you can't fix world problems.

Which acts would you like to see reunite and tour? (Oh, and you can't bring dead people back, so no Doors, Beatles, etc...)..

Nobody, really. If they were great, they've already left us a body of work that they may or may not be able to equal anyway.

Now, if you could bring back Miles Davis, then we'd have something.

Hate to be a killjoy, and I hope other people get to have some fun with this topic...but most reunions leave me pretty cold. Sometimes you truly can't go home anymore.

Not at all, and a null vote is just as valid as another. There was a reference on the "Christmas" thread about a Cream reunion...that's all...

I've gotta say, a lot of people criticized it, but I enjoyed the heck outta the CSN&Y (always sounds like a railroad to me) reunion last year.

A lot of people, like myself, were too young to see some of these legendary bands when they were in their heydey (I was like 12 back in 69), but have been influenced by their music, so it's great to be able to see them live. "Tastefully done" is always an arguable point, but I guess, if one enjoys it then it's cool...

The only one that comes immediately to mind would be Genesis with the lineup that included Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett.

BTW, Ted, you make the assumption that these folks pull together busy schedules, put away petty differences and and - hopefully - have the same creative energy they had 20 - 30 years ago.

All of the reunion concerts I have seen over the last 6 years have been far beyond the original shows 20 years ago At great woods Ma. Boston, Doobie Brothers, Styx, Peter Frampton, Deep Purple,ELP, Also bands with a few changes in the lineup REO Speedwagon, Kansas, Lynyrd Skynyrd still put on a hell of a show

Happy The Man is back together after 20 years. More of a cult following than a 'famous' band. Kit Watkins is the only original member not returning. He has been replaced by David Rosenthal.

A studio project is in the works and live gigs are already happening (mostly mid-atlantic for now).

Well I have to say I don't like reunion shows much myself, normally. BUT, I have seen a few that have surprised me. I saw the Who a couple of months ago and they really blew me away. The show was far beyond my expectations, as I admit I mostly went to see Zak Starkey play drums... I'd never heard him before and kept hearing how great he was. The hype is all true! But everyone really sounded inspired and had fun.

And, not that it's really a "reunion" because they never went away, but I've always enjoyed the Stones' shows. They always bring something new to the table when they tour, and the sound is generally great even in huge arenas which is really saying something.

But, by far the biggest surprise reunion I've ever seen was the Jimmy Page/Robert Plant shows about 5 years ago. I only wish John Paul Jones would've been there too (and in fact, when Zeppelin were inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame, Jones asked Page and Plant why they'd seemingly forgotten his phone number when they went on tour). If you don't have the CD and/or (preferably) the video of this tour, you need it! Many of the versions of Zeppelin songs that were performed blew away the originals, I kid you not. The idea to perform with a full orchestra and several Arabic string and percussion players produced inspired results. If you can listen to the version of "Four Sticks" from this CD or video and not get chills, you must not have a nervous system.

I guess the only other reunion I'd like to see which would probably actually be good, would be the original Meters with Zigabu. Otherwise, can't really think of one.

By definition, reunions have to be something out of the past...it's probably premature to have an L.A. Style reunion. Or maybe not! I can just see the ads on late night TV in mid-2001...

"CLASSIC TECHNO! All your favorite tracks from the early 90s! "Move," "Injected by a Poison," "James Brown is Dead," "Y'All Ready for This"...they're all here!

If you had been out drinkin' with me and a couple of my buddies last Sunday night...you'd have seen more than your share of Police. I'm quite happy to have the Police leave me the fuck alone, thank you...and that goes double for the band with 'Stink' as a frontman.

FWIW, around our shop, we call those reunion tours "401/k tours"...we started that with the Eagles 'reunion tour' at $135/ticket. The Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith tour last summer was the mother of all "some memories are better left alone" tours...but that's just my opinion.

Given the choice, I'd rather see a good 'local band'...oh well.

No reunions but to go back in time and see Basie with Young in the band, or Louis when he was young, or Beatles in Hamburg in 61, or Pistols in 76 or Bird and Diz etc..Robert Johnson in some hole in the wall....

O.K., I'll bite. . .

How about STEELY DAN, first, back in 199x(?Drew Zingg on guitar), and again this year

I know I'll get shit for this one but Fleetwood Mac blew me away too. Never really knew who the fuck Lindsey Buckingham was before that. . .

CSN&Y sooooooo much better with Neil (and those Neuman KSM105s)

As for those fantasy reunions, I'd REALLY like to see Joni Mitchell wit the band she had on the "Shadows and Light" tour. Jaco Pastorias, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, etc...

Gotta agree whole heartedly here Flecther...

In Seattle we've got a few journeymen type bands..... 'Dick Powell','Issac Scott',' Fat James'. These bands definitely put on killer shows.

Pioneer Square has 7 clubs all within walking distance, and always have a '10 bucks get in all' deal.
