new 24bit t-racks...does it suck?

Recommended Posts

i bought it, and i think its great. leaps and bounds better than version 1 at 16bits, that version was grainy and kind of a joke.

the new version 2 allows 24bit input/real time dither 16bit output/24bit output.

i find its very silky smooth if set right, and its very easy to adjust eq and comp to create a contiguos multitrack cd.

i dont work for them, just thought id share my good experience.

its $300 new, free update for version 1 users.

i would have never used the earlier version.

now i use t-racks on all consumer-style recordings going out of my studio ( i wouldnt use it on a live orchestra recording though...)

very mtv style results are possible, or even subtle if you care for that too.

what do you guys think?

anyone use this for serious work?

I have used both versions. I only work in 16 bit so i can't speak to the uprgrades for 24 bit compatibility.

I don't find the sound to be all that diferent that the original version. They state that they re-designed the limiter section to be more smooth....i don't notice any difference in sonic quality - thats not a bad thing tho......

The user interface is a little different, i.e it gives u more options...some of which are useful, others i can live without. I enjoy being able to set the compression ratio now. However, the new clipping/gain/saturation section with variable soft vs. hard clipping i think is just a pain in the ass, and doesnt really give you anything more than the switch on the original version...just my opinion....

So coaster, u think the sonic quality is better over the last version? (of course 24 bit is better, but i'm talking about the software in general)

yep. i have both versions, and i think that running into the new version at 24bits sounds better than running into the old version at 16bits.

running into the new version at 16bits sounds less grainy to me than the old one.

i like the clipping section of the new version. i think the full scale digital setting sounds too much like maxim, while all the way analog clipping sounds too muddy. i like it a little off from the analog side.

dithering the 24bit mix down to 16 is very nice also, kind of a 'hot' sound.

clients ask me if i've run their mix across tape. (i have not)
