It's not a competition, you know. I like covering a broad range of topics that allow people to editorialize. That's why the only description of the forum is "open mic." The analogy I like to use is a party, where groups of people sit around discussing various topics, and you drift from one group to another. This is an accessible forum, and lots of people take advantage of that.

Note also that the number of people visiting ALL forums has gone up dramatically. Just look at what the Keyboard and Guitar forums have accomplished in a very short period of time.

As to quality vs. quantity...whatever. As long as people enjoy this forum, that's fine with me.

It is just for fun and apropos in the wake of all the election madness.

But we've just been informed that the forum post tally counter is not working properly in Palm Beach...all us old geezers that thought we were posting here were really posting on the "Home and Garden Channel" bulletin board.

(Hey, I like that channel too...)

I don't know Craig..., Roger posted a "Free Givaway Contest" that will surely generate more posts.

From Roger:

OK.... Here is the drill. You guys want free stuff, then you are going to have to work for it...

...I will have someone besides me at EQ pick a magic number for the post meter.

Hmmmmmm, maybe we WILL need a manual recount.

Will you be giving away any prizes?

This is still all for fun...RIGHT!!!???

The point is moot, anyway. Sharp readers of EQ may remember the slipup a couple months where it was revealed that Roger and I are the same person...and there was photographic proof.

By the way, John Bartus, I think there is a sinister conspiracy connection involving these forum posts and Palm Beach. Are you aware that the main paper in Palm Beach is the Palm Beach Post? Yes, it's sending a subliminal message that Palm Beach is all about posting.

Further conspiracy theory: have you noticed that Roger Nichols, David Frangioni, and I all live in Florida, within a couple hours' drive of each other?

Okay, I'll admit it: At the last NARAS meeting in Miami, Roger, David, and I got together and decided to greatly increase the number of posts in our forums so we'd look better to the admin at MusicPlayer.com. We all got AOL accounts, and made up 17 different screen names per account. We then cross-posted in all of our forums. For example, I adopted the names Alphajerk, Tedster, Miroslav, Lee Flier, and Julien Standen. Roger got Fletcher and a bunch of others. Then David Frangioni hacked together a quck random message generator which we all installed on our computers (it's not totally debugged yet, which is why some of the messages are incoherent sometimes). So now we have the three fastest-growing forums on MusicPlayer.com! David's would have been a bit further along than it is, except for the fact that he had a lucractive consulting gig "maintaining" the voting machines in West Palm Beach, and that's kept him busy the past few weeks.

I hope this puts all questions about this post thing to rest, once and for all.

Are we taking about the manuals in English, and/or the Japanenglish ones also?

Are the ones in Japanenglish even considered true manuals or will they be thrown out of the count/re-count process?

I think we need a judicial decision on this one.

Also, do PDF files on CD count as manuals? What if the manuals are those little tiny kinds that you lose, instead of the nice 8.5 X 11 booklets? If software is updated, and there's an update manual but not a full manual, does that count? And if a product is shipped with a preliminary manual, then you get the final one later on, does that count as two manuals or one?

According to my re-count, I have either 36 or 1,245 manuals in my studio. No Florida jokes, please. Dave Barry makes enough of them.

BTW -- I highly recommend Carl Hiassen's books which are mostly Florida-themed. They're hilarious, and help give a little more insight into the inherent craziness that exists in many parts of this highly-fractured state.
