DR-770 or RY20 ?

I bought the DR770 a couple of weeks ago and have loved it since I took it out of the box. The manual is just OK, but it is enough to get you going, also the machine is fairly intuitive. I fiddled around with 4 or 5 similar units side by side at the local Guitar Center ( non were the Yamaha RY-20), and found (to me anyway) that it had a better all around sound. As you probably know the suckers come with a lot of presets, with a fair amount of storage for yer own recipes. Again only had it a couple of weeks, so I'm probably a little bias a this point.

I'm not totally familiar with the Yamaha RY-20, but have seen a couple of site that didn't have a lot of positive feedback. Below is one site. I would guess that EQ or SOS would have more info.

Good Luck

YO! YO! YO!

Before you buy anything, Doc, ya mind telling us what yer looking for, soundz & style-wise? What kind of music are you into? What flavors of grooves do you want to explore? What's yer budget?

NEVERMIND...I just clicked on your homepage. Go wit da 770. Mo & Quantum give it props, + Roland IS a cool outfit. I use the Korg ElectribeS (sampler + sequencer = tripped-out groovebox) and was about to recommend you demo that (or the ElectribeR: all the above minus sampling) before you commit, but it's an urban thang, and I don't know if you wanna go there, unless you are interested in experimenting on a more psychedelic tip. But you may want to demo the E-Tribes anyway, just for the f*ck of it. Anywho, a new beatbox is a beautiful thing whatever you get, as long as it isn't the Alesis SR16 (great sequencer, pathetically dated sounds). Just remember: if it's also a SAMPLER (E-TribeS), your possibilities open up to INFINITY. IMHO.

Groove out baby!!

You guys rule!

I'm going to go with the 770. Yeah, I'm into the more heavy type thing, so... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway, my main use will be using it to lay down some cool beats that my 1 year old drumming skills aren't quite up to par with.

I prefer to have real drums, but some of the stuff I write on guitar requires a bit more than what level I'm at, drum-wise.

Curve,

I'll mostly be slamming out some thrash shit, possibly some inhumanly fast grind, but I'm also a Dick Dale fanatic, so I've been wanting to do a surf project.

My tastes are quite eclectic. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

You go, boy! Any fan of Dick Dale is a good brotha o' mine (my "real" brutha Kurt can play Dale's solos note 4 note - no sh*ttin U). I luv that sh*t.

PALLA PALLA PALLA PALLA PALLA PA PALLA PA PALLA...

BA NA NA BINGA BINGA PALLA - BA NA BINGA BINGA PALLA...

Demo the E-Tribes. I gotta feeling about you...they're like 21st century surf beatboxes - that's why I use 'em. Surfin' the concrete, steel & glass beaches.

IMHO...
