Tedster
My, what a happy piece! Mo Thumper, I can't imagine how you couldn't find the sunshine and butterflies there! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif But seriously...a well done piece. I like the way the fluid background rolls around like the River Styx...but.. I guess I have to go with Mo Thumper...death overtakes us all, so why urge it on prematurely? Those who have a "cool" concept of death are merely able to do so as they're alive. That all stops when the lights go out. And, if you're not only merely dead, you're really most sincerely dead, you won't be able to write about it, so life is actually better, isn't it? Why not grab some gusto? And, I guess I get bitter, as there are tons of people who don't want to die and do, like my daughter who was killed in a car accident two years ago. Where does anyone have the right to wish they were dead? Sorry. Life is a gift. I know...I just don't understand. Maybe none of us do. Tedster
Thanks...I've gotta believe things really are better on the other side...sorry for the reference. I thought a lot about it before I posted that, but I just couldn't let it alone with the topic at hand. Life is too short not to appreciate... not Cereal
hey tedster, sorry about your daughter. i cant imagine anyone really wanting to die. i know i certainly dont. how could i make music if i were not here to do it? o have to many neat things i get to do in life. i figured many people would misunderstand the tune. it is an exhageration of a feeling of overwhelming frustration. it is rather petty, really; you see, on june 19 my house filled up with 72" of water.(my studio was in the basement) i hardly lost any studio gear, as i hauled it up before it got wet. my 485dx66 librarian didnt make it, but is still almost as fast as it was even though its dead. any way, 2/3 of this house are under heavy construction. you cant live there, you cant have furniture there, and the electricity and water are off an awful lot. we are all packed into the remaining 1/3 of the house, which is full of furniture (chaoticly) its not fun, and its been like this for months. everything i used to do and not even think about, like have a cup of joe, is now a near imposiibility. this is a source of frustration for me, as a lot of the time i need somewhere to go where there is noone but me. i need my privacy. so i started to write a tune about these feelings, and "i want to die" came out. it's certainly got that melodramatic edge to it. my point of the first post is that while this may be my worst tune ever, intensionally so, it is the ONLY one to make money on the page. that is ironic. i now ask the question, "should i write music to please myself, or sell out abd make money" im sure theresa a song in there somewhere
Tedster
No, hey, Coaster, I'm sorry. I understand how I may have literally misinterpreted what you were saying. And, also, how the best music is born of frustration and misery sometimes. As a blues fan, I can certainly relate to that. The song isn't bad at all! I know we all sometimes slip into a dark state when things cloud up...and turning it into a positive creative experience helps. The song "Yer Blues" (which may actually only debatably qualify as a true "blues" tune) by Lennon certainly echoes the "Wanna Die" sentiment...which in reality means, go off to Tahiti and drink Mai Tais until it all blows over, but in reality can't. Sorry for overreacting... Ted "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
Anderton
Well, this topic has certainly taken a twist. I couldn't imagine anything worse than losing my daughter, and I think it was appropriate to mention your loss here. It gives us all pause to appreciate what's in front of our eyes. It never hurts to be reminded of the transitory nature of the human experience, so that we can make the most out of it. Okay. I also listened to about the first minute of the tune. Don't take offense that I didn't listen to the whole thing -- not only do I not have broadband, most tunes I listen to don't make it past 10 seconds, I'm as bad as an A&R person. Actually, I thought there was some real originality in there. But nihilism isn't my thing...too close to the truth, you know... The world is a horrible, beautiful, scary, comforting, sweet, bitter, place. Every action we do, every word we say, pushes it more in one direction or the other. We collectively determine whether we live in paradise, or hell. All the resources exist to make it either. We're the variable in this equation. batman
Yes, Craig, This thread has taken an unexpected turn.... I haven't yet listened to Coaster's track, which I'm sure is very good..... Unfortunately, it has hit a nerve in Tedster, who is, understandably, still trying to make sense (can this ever be possible?) of his daughters death in a car accident, two years ago. My heart goes out to you, man, I have a comparable situation, at this time. "We collectively determine whether we live in paradise, or hell. All the resources exist to make it either. We're the variable in this equation." Yes, Craig, this is undoubtably true, but, it seems insignificant compared to the 150 mph swerve balls delivered to some folks.... Sorry to sound a little sombre...it's just how I felt........................Whoa!...somebody put on a Tubes album...... ...remember them?? Tedster
Adrien... So incredibly sorry to hear that you're going through something similar. Yes, there are strange horrible things that happen...but also strange fantastic things that happen, and I guess we've just got to keep our sights set on those. As for the Tubes, I met them when they did a show here in Kansas City. It was a small crowd, far too small considering the talent of the band. But, they were nice enough to come out after the show and talk to those loyal fans who stuck around. Still had a lot of the old lineup. We can all make a positive difference in the world as a whole through out conscious actions, even as life throws those curve balls. I wouldn't want to be interpreted as saying that what happens in OUR lives is totally up to us, 'cause it ain't...or we'd all make a few edits, I bet. Tedster
Brings to mind a "Peanuts" a few years ago. Charlie Brown made the observation that if life were a video, we could fast-forward through the bad parts. Or maybe it was a Peanuts greeting card. All we (individually) can do is try to make the best choices we can, and learn from the mistakes. And when something bad happens, look for the Phoenix to rise from the ashes. And yes, collectively, the power is there to do great things in the world. So much apathy nowadays, though. Even in the face of large scale tragedy, the attitude is "What a shame. Glad it didn't happen to me. Next..." "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
JP_dup5
ted, I have been following this post, knowing that, with all the pain and death that have been floating in my life, family and friends, there is no way anybody can feel the pain you have experienced. for me, it has changed me, humbled me,and humanized me. all we can do at this point is be the best person we can. I try to influence the people closest to me (family, friends) to be good people and think before they speak. sometimes it gets me in trouble (see napster post lol)but, other than love and a cheerful attitude, I don't really see what else matters.
