the stranger
I'm a guitarist and drummer, mainly. I do manage to slip other asst. noises of other varieties when I think the song needs it. I do some vocalizing (I wouldn't call it singing) http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif I'm a metalhead/punk/hardcore fan. I also get into a multitude of different shit, though. I grew up on classic rock and old country, so I have a deep love for the stuff that shaped me musically. I even have a closet desire to hear some of the old disco favorites (Funky Town, I Will Survive, Knock On Wood, etc.) I love shit that rings a sentimental bell. You hear it and it takes you through the sands of time. I'm also a Dick Dale fanatic. The king of surf guitar still lays most guitarists to waste. Some favs: Napalm Death, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Celtic Frost, Dark Angel, Kyuss, Chuck Schuldiner, Andy Laroque, Prong, Slayer, Billy Joel, Dick Dale, Rush, Dead Kennedys, DRI, COC, Discordance Axis, Led Zep, Floyd, CCR, Modern English, The Smiths, Blondie, Chris Isaak, the entire thrash movement- really (too mant to mention), A good bit of hair metal, a good bit of the new wave of black/death/thrash/etc. 31. I figure age isn't relevent, but it is interesting to see how age is a factor in tastes. ------------------ destructive workshops Want to hear some of my stuff? Tedster
Okay, you got me. I'm 43. Started playing guitar at 13. I like just about anything from Junior Brown to Brian Setzer to Joe Pass to George Harrison to The Ventures to Danny Gatton, and a lot of classic vocal groups of the sixties. Well, to put it this way, there's more I like than what I don't like. But, as far as my guitar and (lack of?) vocals go, pretty much blues, and blues rock. The stuff I'm doing with my current band leans heavily on harmony vocals, so that's where I'm at currently... russreign
Hmmm... well, technically I'm a DJ, but I have also played trumpet, french horn, and a little sax.... as far as musical interests (I'm 24) I'd have to go with Rolling Stones, CCR, Metallica, Chicago, STING, REM, Journey, Boyz II Men, Luther Vandross, Goo Goo Dolls, Beatles, Depeche Mode, and many more.... Like pretty much everything besides Rap and Boy Bands lol Music Is The Answer!
the stranger
I would consider DJ'ing to be just as valid a form of expression as playing an instrument. It is still the art of conveying a certain emotion through music. Not to mention, you guys have taken it into a whole new level in recent years. the stranger
Kick ass. I love DD. I can't believe the man remains so obscure to this day. If you think about the way he was playing a guitar in the early 60's, he was light years ahead of his time. ------------------ destructive workshops Want to hear some of my stuff? Scott from MA
Hmmm... What to say about me? Well, I'm 30 years old, and I have been playing guitar since I was 7. I also play baritone guitar, bass, keys, trumpet, baritone horn, a little drums, and a bit of other various string and brass instruments. I am trained in orchestral arrangement and jazz, but my true loves are blues and alternative rock. Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü, Sugar) is my hero and my inspiration. I am also into bands like Dinosaur Jr., Fountains of Wayne, HUM, Minutemen, Firehose, Wedding Present, Owsley, Nixons, Descendants, Jeff Buckley, Dramarama, Fig Dish, Sonic Youth, Redd Kross, etc. On the flip side, I can be found listening to Ben Harper, Nick Drake, Albert Collins, the Ventures, or the legendary BB King. Max Ventura
Argomax: 34, Italian-born , former Manny's Music NYC Pro Audio employee (pre-Sam Ash), producer and composer living in Italy now, in a seaside town down the middle of the Adriatic Coast (East Coast). I play guitar & bass & keyboards but I am not a specialist in either. A medium-good studio engineer. I am a good DJ and I was one of the first performers ever to do a danceclub act with no records, no CDs and no computers, only sequencers, samplers, drum-machines & synths, all played live (that was in 1992, when grooveboxes were yet to be invented). And nobody even noticed I wasn't spinning. Producing electronic pop at the moment. Max Ventura, Italy.
Guest
jp here, 48 years old. earliest influence was probably the ventures. so, rave on mr dale. started playing guitar at 11 years old. influence style-wise by eric clapton and then dwayne allman. love the slower melodic riffs ( play fast stuff too,ala johnny winters, another early influence). played professionally till i was 41, then quit because of severe damage to hearing. still hear ok, but there is always this high pitch noise in my ears that really gets set off by high pitched voices and AM radio (talk radio freak). now i write music on acoustic for a living, mostly new country and country pop. and yes, when I finish one if these souless, money making ditties, I feel as satisfied as if I had written an opus

I am so jealus, I didn't get seriously into playing till I was 26, I'm 29 now. Anyway, I love all styles of music. Everything from George Jones to Metallica and inbetween. When it comes to playing though, I GOT to play blues, I've tried other styles and while I have the technical skills to do a decent job of it, Blues still comes out. I'm also a pretty good Funk player and anything in a minor key!! I would LOVE to find a good Flamenco instructor though, I've always enjoyed that style of music. Oh, and Rock On DD, I just love the flavor he adds to what he's playing although my personal favorite will probably always be SRV. I just can't describe what I feel when I listen to him wailing on Texas Flood. I still miss ya Stevie. Phil W.

Mo [/b] my lyrics are always of a positive nature, none of that dribbling on the bar for me. what makes my music hopelessly pop is the arrangements I compose. since, of all my influences, the Beatles remain foremost, my music is based in that era-flavored progressions that seems to prevail in commercial country today, and give me that sense of fulfillment
