ajcamletearthlink.net
Hey all: Anyone have experience in mixing brass sections (i.e. more than 5 tracks of horns) with an amplified rhythm section?

Tiny G
Each style of music dictates recording and mixing a little differently. What kind of recording is this? Do you have a good example to follow (i.e. an album that could serve as a template)? I can give you a few suggestions, (although these ideas might be way to basic for you). Try working with the pre-delay settings on your reverb. Depending on the tempo of the piece a nice little pre-delay can help open up the sound (32-70ms). Try sending the brass mix through a compressor and bringing that back into your mix combined with the uncompressed individual tracks to give some body to the brass sound. There is a big difference between the brass sound from a John Williams piece and the brass sound from Tower of Power so get something you like and study the sound.
