not Cereal
Question: Need to mic guitar that is vibrating sympathetically with the wind (aeolian harp). think pzms, contact (piezo) mics should work well. the system must be relatively weather resistant (temp and moisture). Has anyone tried this? comments?
Faeflora
OHMYGOSH!!!!!!!!! I LOVE AEOLIAN HARP!!! When I first saw your topic it took me a while to remember what it is. I saw a documentary on interesting intstruments or something. That was such a wonderful sound! I'm sorry, I don't know how to mic it. Is the problem the wind noise? Do you know where I might find a CD exclusively containing Aeolian harp material? Or where I can buy one? Thank you, F If you live in the Washington Metro area, check out Slave Audio
not Cereal
actually i do have access to a cd. it's not very good.. give me till monday and i'll dig it up. it's going to be outside, 24-7 with a feed piped indoors (hence the mic). since ND weather can be brutal (-40F - yuck!!!) it needs to NOT be a u87, something simple..... What about those big fluffy tv reporter boom mics? I don't know what they use, but they are probably pretty durable right? Maybe try a making a tent or enclosure for the mic with a plastic 'roof' and mosquito netting for the walls. If you didn't have exposed edges the netting wouldn't make wind noise and would diffuse and defract the wind. Guest
Do they have a sound hole?? I used to mike aan orchestral harp via the sound hole to get some separation from the rest of the orchestra. I'd wrap it in a cloth and jam it in the hole, a bit of top end eq and it sounded fine. Cheers John
