Anifa
Edited June 2, 2003 3:55 CDT 20to20 MixterRader ChristopherKemp DanS Wrave Strongbad Hi guys, welcome to my team. I have received email addresses from 20to20, Wrave, StrongBad, and Chris Kemp. I will be sending a PM to DanS and MixterRader to notify them of their team status. At any time, any of you can reach me through my email addresses at anifa@musicbizbuzz.net Once I have all the email addresses, I can set a mailing list up for private communications. I'm working on a private forum that uses the same platform as what Brakka has. General discussions for my team will take place in this thread and private discussions will be held in a separate location. I have established FTP space already for one of the team members and will do so for all as time permits me to do so. This will allow us to communicate and swap mp3 files without bogging down email attachments or getting them kicked out by the server. This should be a great and fun ride. I'm looking very forward to working with you guys. 20to20
Hey Gents & Ani'Fa, Just checked out the tunes that were linked...nice stuff... Can't wait to get started working with you all... Plenty of flute players representin'... I don't think I indicated when I signed up, that I've got some flutes, recorders, ocarinas, and assorted whistles [of the penny-, slide-, bird-, dog- and referee- varieties...] Who's "playing drums"...? Anifa
I'm back in from the car shop; bad radiator... BOOM $200.00!!! Anyway... 20to20, I have a message board set up on a new site that I took out, but I haven't made any modifications to it. We can probably move to it, or else I can set up a FrontPage forum on MusicBizBuzz.net; the new site I took out is with the same Host that Brakka is with. Brakka mentioned that he'll help get the forum customized if I need him to. I'll have to get ahold of him. I've been spoiled to the ease of use in Microsoft FrontPage 2002; the new site is script, which I'm lost in. Hopefully within the next day or so, I will have something private going.... even if I need to take Brakka up on a Private Forum at his place. Would you guys prefer private discussions away from CC during the initial stages? You can take the man away from his music, but you can't take the music out of the man. Anifa
I don't think I have any problems with discussing the process 'in public'... I'm cool with keeping things at home here in the Collaboration Corner if everyone else is. The mp3 files exchanged will be on a secure network so that noone may access the files without password authorization. I will privately email links and access information to my team players. I'm not really wanting to have to report to a bunch of different places to stay atop of all the activity. If we all agree on this, this thread works fine for me. All in favor, say YEA!!! Wrave
Hey ya'll! Here's a message I sent to Anifa at her email address earlier... Just to add to the list of my abilities... I might be able to do a little back-up vocal in the lower registers. If you want to use any of the Native American flute, I have flutes in the keys of Emi, F#mi and Gmi so we'd need to restrict the tune to those keys or one thats complimentary. These flutes will probably need to be autotuned (I have the software) since the tuning varies with the humidity and temperature. I've got a decent acoustic flat-top I can record. It also has a piezo pickup. I also have the capabilities you saw when I registered as a player. I hope you have tunes in mind or one of the other team members has something. Glad you have an FTP site for us. That will make things so much easier. As far as moving audio files around, the mp3s ought to work to give us something to play to but when we've done our parts, we ought to transmit them as wav files at at least 16 bit 44.1 kHz. With my PT set up I can handle up to 24 bit 48kHz. The audio file compression utility that DakLander mentioned in his file compression thread might be good for me since I am connected from home via dial-up but that would mean that the mixer would need to use it as well once they receive my audio files to uncompress them. So if there's anything else you need, just let me know. Oh yeah, I have a couple of pretty nifty graphics programs too if there'd be any need for that. Let's have fun! R. Frank Louden (WRAVE) 20to20, glad you've got a couple of ideas. Hey, we're neighbors! I was thinking Anifa had an idea or two when I read one of her earlier posts, was I right? BTW, what are we gonna do about drums. Have we got a drum programmer on board? OK, 'nuf for now. I'll be checking in regularly. 20to20
Wow...cool... Just finished a session utilizing some very Frippertronics-like circuitry (and results)... Very enjoyable and satisfying... _______________________________________ Some of my first random thoughts on our project... __ Re "drums": I'd like to suggest a combination of the best groovethang maker with an organic [not synthetic] sonic signature... Stevie Wonder meets Peter Gabriel... or maybe just: David Byrne meets Brian Eno... Perhaps we could set-up a song with an effective Acid track, then we could all send in perc. tracks in response to that template without actually hearing each other's perc. tracks... It would be very interesting to construct this percussion ensemble "after the facts"... FunkyBeatGrooveFeel... __ Similarly, Re: Flutes... It might be interesting to have some sort of break in the pulse, and feature our little "wind orchestra"... With symphonic flutes and whistles, perhaps any aerophone: harmonicas, clarinets, whiz rings, kazoos? Each player could record various "long-thread" tones from any wind thang to be weaved together... Tapestries of Air... __ Elements of our composition may fly, but the thing should be well-grounded in rhythm... Anifa
Yes, I like Bob's suggestions as well. I have just sent emails to all team members, with the exception or Mixter (I don't have an email on him yet), with usernames and passwords to access FTP space on my web site for uploading files to. There are instructions as to how to accomplish this included in the message. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me. I thought I might toss out some lyrics if everyone is game to give some kind of idea as to a song structure. No melody, just raw lyrics to see what mood it puts people in. I would like to keep the lyrics in a more secure place so that other forumites don't have access to them until the completion of the project. I kind of like ornery vibes... I'll let members know the location of lyrics, once I have them uploaded, by email. If you guys see lyrics you like, and you want to hear the melody, I can upload a raw track of vocals. Just thoughts... but not necessarily instructions. You can take the man away from his music, but you can't take the music out of the man. Anifa
There is a question of allowing a late arrival into the league; GT3. Right now there is a question as to where to place him. Can you guys please email me with your thoughts as to whether or not we should go ahead and open the door to allow him on our team. If B_3guy's team players fail to report he might want GT3 on his team, meanwhile, I'd like to know how everyone else feels about an additional team member. I know that some of you guys have worked with GT3 in the past. Your prompt responses would be appreciated. You can take the man away from his music, but you can't take the music out of the man. Wrave
No problem allowing a late comer in as far as I'm concerned. Anifa
I have uploaded a set of lyrics to the group FTP space. I saved it in rich text so that any MS application should be able to open the doc. It's somewhat playful and ornery at the same time. I have a melody, but I'm not stuck on it... I can record it and upload a raw vocal if you guys want. Just tossing out ideas. DanS and 20to20 I'm fine with the two of you getting the drum tracks rolling; Acid or whatever works. Then, as 20to20 suggested, others send in their mixes to add to the pool. Anyone jump in with thoughts about having lyrics... If you guys want a different mood, let me know. We don't even necessarily need to start out with lyrics or even have them at all; I was just looking at giving some sort of pattern. I think that wood winds would suggest a more melancholy vibe than what the lyrics I put up would bring. It might be easier to write lyrics over the top of an instrumental using flutes instead of trying to fit the mood of the music into an established pattern. If the song is to have vocals, I just need some type of ABBA, AABBC, and etc. structure to have enough repetition to write verses and chorus. You can take the man away from his music, but you can't take the music out of the man. 20to20
Hey all, I'm good also with the addition of GT3... If he joins us, this'll be my third project 'with' him... We'll be able to release an "full CD" soon at this rate... DanS, maybe you could cook up a few Acid grooves and submit them for us to evaluate... We could decide which one works with Wrave's fragments & Ani'Fa's lyrics and go from there... ChrisK, what up with the Stick...? Mixter, are you out there...? Strongbad, are there blisters on your fingers...? I'm going to check out the Group FTP later tonight and see if I can D/L Ani's lyrics & Wrave's stuff... Wrave
Anifa, I like your lyrics. Maybe one of the guys will have something to put with them. OK, I threw something together this afternoon and just dumped it to the FTP site. I guess mostly it's a test FTP. Very rough but you can get an idea and it's there if it appeals to anyone. I called it "Catwalk" and it's in mp3 format. Just bass and the flute. Didn't try to tighten anything up or clean it up so the click track is still audible. I did it at 100 bpm. Oh yeah, it's in Gm (I think!). I can come up with a riff but don't always get the key right!!! If it makes anyone ill, I don't want to hear about it. If you folks like it enough to use it, I will go to work arrainging it into something more presentable. I'll be checking in more this week but may not have a lot of time to do much creating. I'll be back at it again starting the weekend. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ME: "Nobody knows the troubles I've seen!" Unknown Voice: "The Shadow do!" Anifa
Still no word from MixterRader!!! He hasn't made a post in any MusicPlayer forum since May 28th. He may be on the road, or locked up to where he doesn't have access to a computer. I know that happens occasionally. As far as GT3, I think Wewus is pulling for him on his team. I guess there are a few others that have wanted to get in too, but I'm not sure just exactly what's going on. GT3 has been involved in collaborative projects for quite some time, and apparently he had contacted Wewus during the initial talks of the sign-up; through miscommunication, he missed the cut off for sign-up. I let you guys know when I know more. I understand Phil O'Keefe was interested also. There was also one other whose name escapes me right now.
