russrags
The other day I was asked if I knew how to go about researching band names to see if they've already been taken or not. I really didn't know, other than maybe the Library of Congress or something like that. "Armed and Dangerous" is the name they have in mind. Any thoughts ??? Dak Lander
Well, it's not regestered with band names or the band register. I don't think the copyright office is the place to look, rather the trademark scenario would be a better look. To my recollection, I don't think you can copyright a name but you can register one as a trademark. Do some net searches for the name via google, hot box & etc. It'll be time consuming and a real pain in the eyes, but may very well produce a negative occurance of the name for another band. :freak: Ya know, i just got to thinking. If the band's been around for awhile it might be worth doing a registration with band name and the band register, putting in the inseption date. You may need to have proof later on if some other band claims the same name but it's a start. Our Joint "When you come slam bang up against trouble, it never looks half as bad if you face up to it." russrags
Hey Thanks guys. Yea I really didn't think the Library of Congress was the place to look either, but that was the only thing that popped into mind. I probably knew the right answer at one time, but have forgotten !!!! Thanks Dak for the extra tip I'll give that a try. Hey do you have any cowboy songs ???? New songs that sound old, but are Western (not Country) ???? I'm looking for material for one of the Artists I make records with. Russ http://home.bellsouth.net/p/PWP-russrags [/b][/quote]Yeah, "Never Done That Before". It'a a good tune that, with the right help can be a winner. I also have a song that, with AniFa's lyrics and my melody will be a killer. Both Western, but not the new shit. Skip_dup1
russrags- I believe what you need is a `title search`. It involves a fee of some kind, but it`s the surest method. I have a feeling that name will already have been taken, though. Maube not.

DC
I saw a national band registry once at a talent agency. It was pretty wild to see all the 'Destinys' and such. -David http://www.garageband.com/artist/MichaelangelosMuse
