Funnelhead
Hi to one and all, Because space is a major consideration in my home studio, I am looking at buying a drum machine software to help me sketch out ideas and to help my lead guitarist get a handle on where songs are going. He also (whispering) does not have the greatest sense of rhythm between you and me... I am considering getting "Attack" by Waldorf. I will need a Mac OS 9.1 friendly software. Ideally it would also handle OS X as I want to switch to OS X in a few months. I am not against hardware, but a DMPro or something like it is looking pretty steep at the moment. Thanks much! Bunny Knutson
Hi! Welcome to the forums. I don't have an answer to your question, but I like your screen name! I used to be in a band called Funnelhead in the early '90s. What a funny coincidence. https://bunny.bandcamp.com/ https://theystolemycrayon.bandcamp.com/
Bunny Knutson
Actually, I just thought of something. Have you checked out the program called Fruity Loops? https://bunny.bandcamp.com/ https://theystolemycrayon.bandcamp.com/
zeronyne
Be careful buying Attack...Waldorf is out of business. There are dozens of other software drum machines that are really, really good. Are you looking for a traditional drum machine interface or are you partial to loops? "For instance" is not proof.
sidereal
Take a good long look at Spectrasonics StylusRMX. Inspiring, deep, kicks ass, solid on OSX, and is expandable. It's a plug-in, so you'll need a VST app, Garage Band, or Pro Tools to run. Just for the record.
Funnelhead
Thanks Bunny, Zeronyme, and Sidereal! When I chose "Funnelhead", I remember thinking to myself: sounds like a band name...Small world. Do you have an old MP3 of your band out of curiosity? Thanks Zeronyme for the heads up on Waldorf's troubles. I have seen "Attack" go for $50-$70, so it does not seem like much to risk. As long as I get some decent sounds and it is not buggy should be worth it... I really am not into looping at this point. I need to give my rhythm GTR player something to hang his hat on. I will check out Spectrasonics for the vitals. Later! "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for." - Ernest Hemingway

Angelo Clematide
BATTERY 2 is good and very flexible http://www.native-instruments.com you can load any AKAI CD or AIF etc., a good choice for start is: 90 DRUMMACHINES & RHYTHM BOXES or any other, there are hundreds... http://www.bestservice.de/index.asp/en ________________________________________________ or use a drum sampler plug-in like Intakt or Kompakt, who comes with libraries like this ones: Drumkit From Hell, Artist Drums etc. there are many more, also with synthetic sounds http://www.soundsonline.com/ -Peace, Love, and Potahhhhto
Funnelhead
Thanks to Eric & Angelo! That is 2 for Native Instruments and 2 for Attack from Waldorf. I will check out NI's site today. This forum is "fast lane". Too bad I can't comfortably fit my old drum kit and a few amps in my studio booth at the same time. BTW, I am interested in more realistic drum sounds, since I figure I can always use plugins if I want to get something more synthetic sounding in the short term. If you think NI's Battery can be beat by another product out there - let me know... Thanks!
