tarsia
Hi Drum Dudes, I'm visiting from the Lowdown (Bass player), Our drummer has had a 48" Zildjian gong since the mid 80's, He got it through a friend at a music store, and he's trying to put a $$$ estimate on it insurance reasons and all..., but can't find any info. - I guess they quit making them this size . Anybody have any idea ? a website or bluebook price estimate - any help would be appreciated... Thnx !!! I'm Todbass62 on MySpace
djarrett
Tarsia: I need more information. Give me a description of the gong. Is it all hammered brass and flat out to the edges (called a wind gong), ... or is it hammered brass with the rounded edges ... black paint around the edges with a bullseye dot in the middle. Please inform and I will get you the info for pricing. Thanks, DJ

tarsia
DJ - here's the response from my Drummer friend : "It's the hand hammered with rounded edges. Painted Black around the edge with a black bulls eye and two "oriental symbols" one near the top and one near the bottom in the non painted area between the edge and bulls eye. At the time there was a thick weight and a thin weight version. I got the thin weight." Thanx for any help or info. djarrett
tarsia: The retail price on a new Zildjian Gong (40") is as large as they offer is right at $1800.00 Street price on that 40" bad boy is about $1020.00. If his unit is really used, you may think to depreciate by about 30%, however, ... I would pay the higher premium on my music gear and get replacement value (which would be at Retail!) Hope this helps. DJ
tarsia
DJ, Thanx for the help ! That was the closest info he could find as well, Maybe an e-mail to Zildjian will be in order, to find out when they made these and when they stopped. Anybody have any 80's era bluebooks > ? Tedly Nightshade
You could also go to lonestarpercussion.com and see the prices on Wuhan- ostensibly a lesser make than Zildjian, but Wuhan probably made the Zildjian. I think it's like $2000 new for a 48" Wuhan. I want one, bad! A WOP BOP A LU BOP, A LOP BAM BOOM! "There is nothing I regret so much as my good behavior.
