TShakazBlackRoots
I've been privileged to see Sly Dunbar with Robbie Shakespeare in action playing for Michael Rose (Black Uhuru) in South Bank London. Sly's drum antics are a show in itself. I did meet him at the studio in Jamaica and we talked for hours. A dream come true. I managed to see again backstage after the London gig. Have you seen this guy live? gmd
I saw Sly and Robbie with the original Black Uhuru line-up years ago at a small club in Dallas. I Met both of them afterwards and found them to be friendly and even a bit humble. I was (and still am) a big fan. Those guys wrote the book on "feel"... TShakazBlackRoots
Oh yes, they are so humble and down to earth. For someone to have such abundant talent and yet remain humble is amazing. Back in the Black Uhuru days, that band was super tight. You are lucky to have had a chance to watch them. The first ever Reggae Grammy Award was won by Black Uhuru backed by Sly & Robbie. TShakazBlackRoots
Try gettting their live shows on video or DVD from Amazon.com. Amazing. Also the Black Uhuru Anthology double CD is great. They've colloborated with 100's of artists. Grace Jones as u mentioned, Rolling Stones and many more who aren't Reggae artists. As for the Reggae songs they've played on or produced, I hear it's over 3000!! The amazing thing is Sly programming drums on an Akai MPC3000!! Superb!
