roknrolltkovr
Hi guys, I'm new here and pretty new to drumming too. Right now I've got a Pacific LX set that I use for practice at the guitarist of my bands house, so I'm pretty limited on being able to practice at home. After 6 months of this my skills have noticeably decreased, so the other night I walked into guitar center just trying to get an idea of how much I would be putting into a new practice set if I got one. Well after looking through the GC here, along with another music store, I think I've narrowed my search down to 4 kits, a new Pacific FS for around 500 with no hardware, a Gretsch Catalina Club kit (the larger sizes not smaller) for about 475 with no hardware, a new Peace Demolition set with a full set of crappy hardware for 350, or an old used Tama Artstar with good hardware but no snare for about 475. The Artstar already has a set of G1s on top and remos on bottoms, where as with any of the other sets I'd have to get new heads. I know the Artstar has been discontinued for awhile, so especially for that if anyone has any information on it I'd be most grateful. Price is definitely an issue, the less I can spend the better, but I don't want to get a piece of junk, it has to last for awhile. Well if anyone has any information or opinions, please share. Thanks Andy
Prof.Sound
Well - you pretty much called it. The Artstar would probably be the overall better quality, but the FS is known to have poor hardware but decent sound. The other two are poor choices. Jazzman
Just a thought.....Have you looked any used sets to practice on? Sometimes drum shops have some extra drums (used) that may be hanging around that are collecting dust. I would ask around for some drums that way. Might be able to pick up some drums cheap. A friend of mine that has 4 sets of drums has a mixed set, actually he selected the best individual pieces as a practice set with some standard stands from different shops. Buy a cheap set of cymbals that come in a set too. Jazzman
adam b_dup1
i got a pretty beefed up kit and all i do is learn to get used to haul around all my drums, it gets annoying to pack everything up, but youl get better at it! i would love to have another kit to keep at my friends house when we practice, but i wouldn't want to spend so much money on a whole nother kit....just about everytime we practice i just have to tell myself to toughen up .....bonham
