adam b
On my setup right now i have a B8 pro 20" ride cymbal (sabian), an 18" HHX crash (sabian) and my other crash is just some old shitty 16" B8 (sabian) and i just got enough money to purchase another cymbal and i want to replace my old B8 with a new crash whats a good crash for me to buy? ***I prefer Sabian, so please suggest me some Sabian crashes that would help match up with my other cymbals***
Allan Speers
DG, you don't mention what genre you play, which of course is critical to choosing the right cymbals. I own a fairly high end studio. I have LOTS of cymbals, and change them around for almost every tune. However, the Sabian HHX evolutions are my current go-to cymbals for crash and splash. They're exciting yet complex, and they get out of the way fast. Great for every genre. Since you already have an HHX 18, why not just get an HHX 15" or 16" ? (unless you play metal.) My second choice for an all-around crash would be the Zildjian A custom-series. Those are a tad more powerful in the mids, but lack some complexity by comparison. -Of course, ask me again in 6 months and I'll probably have a completely different opinion. Jode
Best bang for the buck, without question, is Wuhan. I have an S-Class 16" medium crash that is quickly becoming my favorite, and you can get one for about eighty bucks. It kicks total ass on anything else in that price range, and it holds its own beautifully against my other A. Zildjian crashes. "I had to have something, and it wasn't there. coyote
Go to your local shops, and play a bunch of 'em! And (JMO here) DON'T be a brand loyalist unless that company is endorsing you.... just get the one that SOUNDS BEST TO YOUR OWN EARS. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. The only cymbals by Wuhan that I've seen around here (NC) are 12" - 18" chinas. BlueStrat a.k.a. Jode
Wuhan has been importing drumset cymbals for a couple of years now. I haven't seen them in any stores yet - bought mine off eBay - but you can order them from several online dealers. "I had to have something, and it wasn't there.
