dishaven1
What studio, whether in New York, LA, or Nashville, would anyone offer there opinion as being the "best" place to track drums? Also, why would you say that? Is it because of the acoustics of the room? The console in the studio? A rack of Neve mic pres? I would also be interested in hearing what a producer, engineer, or drummer might look for in the ultimate environment for cutting drums. Thanks. djarrett
Some of the best recorded drums (IMHO) have been in a large hall, or large bathroom (like a locker room) and recorded with two overhead mics. (with a mic on the snare and bass to isolate the two). Gives a great old big drum sound liken to the old drums on early Elton tracks. DJ
linwood
What about the drum sound on james taylor's Hourglass CD. It was recorded a few years ago and if I'm not mistaken through a Yamaha o2r and 16bit. Carlos Vega's kit sounds great on that CD. I think it might depend on who's playing the kit and who's tracking it.
