Recommended Posts

For the past couple YEARS, approximately 50%(YES,50!!) of the Regal Tip Quantum 3000 drum sticks our drummer has checked out BEFORE PURCHASING,have been BANNANA shaped!Has anybody else noticed this?Is there somewhere we can contact for quality control? We roll and handle the sticks for weight and straightness, and this is VERY DISTURBING.

Reply Please!

Hey, Kurz:

I have sent an inquiry to the folks at Calato. I would prefer that they answer this quality control issue.

Perhaps they will answer on the forum, or perhaps they will chose to e-mail you directly.

Please let me know if you do not hear from them this week.

Thanks,

DJarrett

Wow, i'm surpirsed to hear this is still going on with them. I actually stopped using their stuff many many years ago and swtiched to Firth pretty much because of that. I still roll sticks if they are not sold as a pair, but the Firths are hardly ever warped, and really not even that bad if they are.....

Haven't received a reply from anyone at Catalano yet! Also, it's nice to hear someone else is familiar with this situation. Can you dig a bit deeper into this?If my product(or SERVICE-in my case)was this defective(50% is HARDLY ACCEPTABLE)I would either discontinue production, or ELIMINATE the people responsible! Please let me know.I asked GIG magazine to look into this about 6 months ago, and received NO reply whatsoever...

Thank You

AJ..

I'm the keyboard player! Our drummer doesn't have a cornpewter..He's been using Quantum 3000 nylon tip sticks for the past 30 years..He is a difficult person to change..It's I guess the "feel"..My you'd have some suggestions for us--I'll relay the message.Maybe I should get him onto someone's computer so he can get connected.I've changed my keyboards and it has been drastic changes in "feel" and performance, but the technology is so immensely changing,I am learning too much too stop changing keyboards.Drums are very nuch the same technology the last so many years, I can understand his hesitation...Although if it were MY decision, I wouldn't put up with this for a minute! Is there a stick that comes close to length and weight in thge Vic Firth line??Let me know. And Thank You for your input.I know many, many fellow musicians, and MOST are very set in their ways, but there's always a chance to open someone's eyes.......

Sorry about the delay in responding about your drummer's situation, but I've been away and just got back into the office. I'm very concerned about the warpage problem with the Quantum 3000. We just pulled 12 pair of Quantum 3000 from inventory, rolled them, and found only 2 sticks (not pair) to be slightly warped.

Warpage is always a problem when working with wood. We dry our lumber at a low temperature to a certain moisture content. Our method for drying produces less warpage than other methods. We can dry all of the moisture out of the wood for even less warpage, but that would produce a brittle stick. So there has to be a compromise. Also, there are inherent stresses in wood. Whenever you cut into wood these stresses are released and this can also cause warpage. So, we therefore inspect our sticks after they are cut. But even so, wood can warp over time. I'm sure you've had an experience with a door that warped, or a floor board that warped. Same principle.

To counter all of these factors we have recently introduced several new steps into our production process the results are very good.

But this doesn't help out your drummer. Would you please ask him to e-mail me about this situation. I'd really like to get his input on this if he doesn't mind. He can e-mail me at carolc@regaltip.com.

In the meantime, thank you very much for bringing this to our attention. If you ever have a problem or question with about a Regal Tip product please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Carol

Hey, Carol:

Thanks for taking the time to respond! It is rare these days to see a manufacturer actually take the time to answer concerns and even more rare to offer to personally ensure satisfaction!

This kind of customer care will take Regal Tip far. It is the stuff that winners are made of.

My Dad always told me that there was no traffic jam on the extra mile. You obviously understand this philosophy!

Thanks again.

Dendy
