Both Davio and WCuhna have Dingwalls.

Hey Davio, did you ever give us a review on that beast? I remember seeing the kitchen pix, but you never said how you felt about it.

And Wade, are you out there lurking?

You could also do a search on "Novax" and "Dingwall". I did and it netted me 8 pages of search results. Most of the threads had one word mentions, but you'll be able to find some discussions as well.

"For instance" is not proof.

I finally played a Dingwall at BassNW when Davio, ChrisOfDoom, and I had our little mini-gathering. The fanned frets are a little strange at first but after a bit I found if comfy. I'd own a bass with fanned frets.

I was curious about the endineering of the fan style. The radically slanted nut and bridge lengthen the larger strings which may improve the tone but I wonder about the accuracy of the intonation. Do they use a heaver string size?? I don't see any other manufacturers jumping into this style. Interesting............Rocky

The intonation is spot on, and the fanned frets are a patented technology. You can find them on many luthier's basses. Conklin & Read immediately come to mind...I'm sure there are many others that have licensed the technique.

I'd have to look into it more thoroughly to be sure, but I don't think the fanned frets are patented...I think each version or scale set is patented by whomever did the research and design. I've seen versions that start slanted at the nut and end on a traditional bridge or just have a less drastic fan but the Novax system is definitely the most popular. I don't really know what the differences between them are other than the aesthetics.

The green one sent me a link a while back to a lecture by Ralph Novak on scale length. I must confess that I have not yet taken the time to read all the way through it but I will be taking the time in the next couple days. If you're interested, it's HERE .

BTW 09, I haven't given a full review on the Dingwall or the AG cab yet. I'm sorry, I had forgotten that I said I'd do that. That will be coming soon too. If you want the condensed version..."heavenly" does a nice job of summing it up.

Sorry, I meant that Ralph's setup is "patented" in terms of his ability to license it out. I did not do a patent search or anything.

I look forward to your reviews, but "heavenly" will tide me over.
