_Sweet Willie_
So, the James Gang will be touring this summer. They play NYC's Beacon Theater on Friday evening, August 18th. This could be a hella fun outing for the NYC-area LDLers. Unfortunately, the tix are fairly pricy -- $88-$128 for orchestra seats or $64 for balcony seats. Ugh. I'd likely enjoy the show, though... Something to ponder. Peace. --s-uu spreadluv Fanboy? Why, yes! Nordstrand Pickups and Guitars. Messiaen knew how to parlay the funk.
jeremy c
They can't be serious about those prices. They weren't that big a group the first time. I recently bought their record for a quarter at a used record store, remembering that I liked Funk 49. After listening to the recording with my 21st century ears, I can't imagine why I liked it back in the old days. Free download of my cd!.
Jode
Sheeit. Chili Peppers tickets for the Rose Garden start at a hundred and sixty-effing-eight dollars. I wanted to see them really bad before I got a load of ticket prices. Jeez, it's not like George and John rose from the dead and took the Beatles on tour. They're only the Chili Peppers. And who do the James Gang think they are, anyway? Personally, I'd love to see them - for $25 at a large club. $64 for nosebleed? Please. "I had to have something, and it wasn't there. Nicklab
Joe Walsh must be back on the sauce! $64 for balcony seats. HA! I think I paid $40 to see King Crimson at the Beacon not that long ago, and I think they have a more signifigant following than the James Gang. ...
Jose Walsh is high. The James Gang is fun and all but they are hardly a band that made a massive impact on the musical world. I'd pay $40 + the TicketBastard fee to see them. Why not? I'm not going to pay nearly $100 to see "Rocky Mountain Way", "Walk Away", and "Funk 49". jcadmus
This is why I don't go to live shows for "name" bands so much anymore. There's a difference between paying a premium and simply getting hosed. Last show I went to was in November. Took my kids down to the Nokia Theater in Manahattan to see Switchfoot. I think we paid 30 bucks a ticket for general admission. I took a carload of kids and we had a ball. "Tours widely in the southwestern tip of Kentucky"

Joe and tJG was one of my inspirations on bass and guitar, and I'd really love to see him up close and personal, but at these prices I'm sitting home and waiting for the DVD. You're probably going to see them on a huge video monitor from the balcony seats anyway, and you can come close to emulating the sound experience in your home or headphones. I just have a problem spending the money for tickets, transportation and snackables when all I'm really gonna get is an uncomfortable seat about 1/4 mile away from the stage. Maybe I'm too old for this experience anyway.

I thought, that must be a mistake. Checked an alternative site and found the 'bargain' price of $168. Still must be a mistake, I thought, or maybe a price for two tickets. So I added one to my cart, and the two-ticket total came up as $336, before taxes and fees. Nope. The tickets really are a hundred and seventy bucks apiece. I expected the show to be sold out by the time I started looking for tickets. Turns out it's not the show that's sold out. "I had to have something, and it wasn't there. Jode
UPDATE: I apologize to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It turns out, tickets in other cities start at around fifty bucks. So WTF?!? Are Portlanders being stuck with the lease payments on the Rose Garden, since the Trailblazers are stinking up the joint and unable to pay their bills? Do they realize that, even at today's gas prices, it's cheaper to drive to Seattle and see them there? BASTARDS! "I had to have something, and it wasn't there. Rowbee
Yeah, the tickets in the UK were about £45/£50 each, I was finding it hard to believe that they were more expensive in the US when it's normally the other way round. Now theres three of you in a band, youre like a proper band. Youre like the policemen.
jeremy c
And I thought I was being too frugal by not going to see Donald Fagen (with Wayne Krantz on guitar, Ready Freddie Washington on bass, Keith Carlock on drums, etc. etc.) for $65. Which is three more than I'd care to hear by the Chili Peppers. www.ethertonswitch.com
Dave Brown
Y'all keepin' me busy with all the language... It would be easy to say that the James Gang tickets would be priced where the market it, capitalism, doncha know? I was never really a fan, and those 3 tunes are about it...and they are mostly Joe Walsh anyway. But you know, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young are hitting the road again. You can still catch a bit of Chicago as well as a number of other acts. So, is this trend because us old farts are trying to relive our childhood, or because the music from 25 years ago is more significant than the music now? That's a rhetorical question, by the way. Yep. I'm the other voice in the head of davebrownbass.

Rowbee
I'd love to see CSN&Y or the Chili Peppers (again) - I guess the James Gang were a lot bigger in the States as I've only ever heard of Funk 49 and it did nothing for me I'm afraid. Now theres three of you in a band, youre like a proper band. Youre like the policemen.
Jode
Perhaps Joe Walsh is taking his cue from Glenn Frey. When the Eagles reunited for the "Hell Freezes Over" tour, tickets started at $95, and this was several years ago. When asked about the prices, Frey said in so many words that this was a big deal, that the Eagles were never going to reunite, and if you want to see the show, this is what it costs. To which I said, "F* you and your ticket prices." As of that moment, I don't even like OLD Eagles anymore. I see dollar signs every time their music comes on the radio. Tom Capasso
First, remember prices in NYC are high, and the Beacon is no exception. I paid just over $80 (fees, tix, etc.) last year to see Elvis Costello there. I'm a huge fan, but it's not something I'm going to do every year. And let's remember that Walsh has lots of media exposure - James Gang is probably the least of his appeal for anyone under 45. Solo, Eagles, and Drew Carey increase his market value, though I agree that I'm not headed to the show at that price. Shame on you bassists - Lost Woman was the best bass song from that band. And Jeremy - I still like Funk 49! Tom www.stoneflyrocks.com Acoustic Color Be practical as well as generous in your ideals.
