Gus G3 GAS

I saw a review of one of these a few years back and it really caught my imagination, I also had a look around the stand at one of the guitar shows in UK.

I have to admit that I'm considering this bass purely on aesthetics, having never played or heard one but I was so taken with them when I saw them. I wondered if anyone else has had the opportunity to play one and can tell me how it feels and sounds?

The finish on the picture isn't really to my tastes but I've seen other, more tasteful colours:

By the way, I did a search before I posted the topic and couldn't find anything - if they have been discussed before I apologise and if anyone can provide me with the link I'd be grateful. :)

Wow. Never seen one before now. Very unique instrument Robee. Like a "pimp my bass" kinda thing.

I have nothing nice to say so . . .

Like I say, try and look beyond the bizarre paint splatter finish - if you have a look at these passive and 5 string versions they're a bit easier on the eye.

The review I read in UK Bassist magazine a few years back was extremely complimentary about the quality of sounds.

I just showed my girlfriend and she found it quite *ahem* attractive.

Carbon fiber sounds pretty easy on the shoulder and I am starting to like the design.

I'll give them credit for innovation. I'm interested in the bridge design; can't see it too well in the pictures, but reminds me somewhat of the Kubicki bridges (except they were for bridge-tuning). Proof is in the playing, of course. The splatter paint job turned me off, but the other finishes made it more attractive. Play it and tell us what you think.

Looks cool enough. I actually like the Jackson Pollack paint job. I wonder, how many thousands of dollars does he want for it?

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

The non-splatter (joke: deleted) designs look pretty cool, the hardware (joke: deleted) especially.

Getz, I had about 40 follow ups that I couldn't clean up enough (joke: deleted)for this forum.

If you think my playing is bad, you should hear me sing!

Strange looking, but no more so than an Ashbory. The pickups look a bit like the DanElectro 'Lipstick' pickups that I have on the Longhorn.

Come to think of it, this could be construed as a "Lady's Choice" Longhorn, could it not?

I'm just sayin', that's all...

Play. Just play.

reminds me of a bad LSD trip,...

the solid color basses look pretty interesting.

Those pups look like the Danelectro lipstick types, now i'm interested in hearing a sound clip

Are the neck and body one piece? I'd be concerned about not being able to replace the neck, should the unthinkable happen. Still think it's a nice looking guitar though.

Hands up anyone who's broken a bass's neck. Anyone? Don't be shy! (Thunderbirds don't count, they're an accident waiting to happen...)

Cool design, appalling paint job on that example.

I believe Parker are the originator of the carbon fibre skin over more resonant but insufficient stiff woods concept, which Modulus have developed into their designs which have carbon fibre internal neck structure and, again, cedar for most of the volume.

Great way to get quick attack and long sustain but with a natural tonal envelope and plenty of resonance - I'd imagine it makes quality control very easy as all the instruments will sound almost identical if made to spec, whilst if wood is used for both structure and resonance there's much more potential for disaster (or brilliance).

I'd really like to try one of these basses, something about them really appeals to me. And for once they're the right side of the pond!
