Chad Thorne
Just downloaded Gladys Knight & The Pips' version of this, since IMO it's the definitive one. Does anybody know if it's Jamerson playing bass on it? - 'cause it's a bitchin' bass line, that's for sure...
Edendude
Yep... It's JJ. Save this link for future reference... Jamerson\'s Hits My Last Band
kenfxj
I believe it's also Jamerson on Marvin Gaye's version. Probably one of my ten favorite recordings of all time. Not that I'm trying to make a list. Push the button Frank.
wurmhole78
While not the definitive version, Toots and the Maytalls definitely do my favorite version. Check it out if you get the chance. Phil W
If you buy the Deluxe 2 CD version of the Standing in the Shadows of Motown soundtrack; you get a remixed version of the GK+TP version of that tune, without the lead vocal. see here James recorded the Marvin Gaye version first (although that version was issued second) and at the end of the Pips version he plays the intro notes from Marvin's track. This CD is a must-have btw. http://philwbass.com
dcr
The bass line is transcribed in the "Standing in the Shadows" book. Yet another reason to get that book! It was a blast to learn that line.
Chad Thorne
I actually have that book but it's at my mother's house (got married in Sept. and am living elsewhere). Too lazy to go get the book and look it up, I guess...
