Hi all,

through being in the right place at the right time, I am lucky enough to own a Zemaitis fretless. Zemaitis basses are rare enough but I know of only 2 others. Any of you good poeple seen any more??

Take a look at the maverick music website.

Zemaitis had a guitar display at the MusicPlayer Live conference. I had never seen their instruments up close, only via TV/photos in the hands of James Honeyman Scott and Ron Wood. I admire the craftmanship of the engraved metal top models and their mother of pearl inlays but would never consider owning one for the $10K MSRP.

Tony Zemaitis was a true individual luthier based out of South England. He died back in 2002. Greco (Mesa Boogie) have licensed the rights to build guitars and basses using his designs. The originals fetch big bucks, but the Greco versions are pretty reasonable when compared to upper range gibson etc. Shell tops are pricey tho!

He did a few basses for the chap out of the small faces (and many more names besides), but all in all they are harder to come by, hence my post.

I'm gonna see if I can try one of those greco's t'see if they have kept some of the spirit of the original alive.
