nickmostly
Hi all: Been playing quite a while but never learned the slap technique. Any suggestions for a video or a good method book? Maybe a good site? Don't really need theory or scale stuff. Thanx Nick Mostly equipment: Cubase5, WindowsXP, Presonus Firepod Kurzweil sp88, Yamaha DGX-230, Saxes, flute. Guitars, bass, etc.
LLroomtempJ
"Slap Bass" by ed friedland is pretty good stuff. It's a good dvd. For future reference you can also use the search function before posting new threads. jason 2cor5:21 Soli Deo Gloria "it's the beauty of a community. it takes a village to raise a[n] [LLroomtempJ]." -robb My YouTube Channel
BenLoy
Graham Central Station and Sly and the Family Stone records should teach you a lot.
Nicklab
I've heard a lot of good things about Alexis Sklarevski's slap bass video. That one's been around for a while. Not sure if it's still in print though. Obligatory Social Media Link "My concern is, and I have to, uh, check with my accountant, that this might bump me into a higher, uh, tax..." alexclaber
Is it just me that is amused that the most notable slap bass instruction materials are from Mr Sklarevski, Oppenheim and Friedland? Git down wit' yo' bad self! Alex - also lacking an afro or genetically funky roots... P.S. And wondering if Leland Sklar used to be a Sklarevski too? jeremy c
It is ironic, Alex. Louis Johnson has two videos out of his slap style. He is one of the major originators of this style and the videos are jaw-dropping. I don't know if they will teach you how to play, though. How do you learn slap style? By listening, watching, and trying. Free download of my cd!.
getz out
I have Ed Friedland's disc, and it is good as far as DVD Instruction goes. Slap is a technique that is physical, and I believe it is best learned by an instructor that can take a look at your hands and critique in real-time. My opinion... rotosound45
I second the Louis Johnson. He is the slap master! Actually, I'll go on a limb and suggest Flea, as well.
