Wally Malone
I can finally talk about changes in my day gig. The AFM has offered me a full-time position as Field Representative and I've accepted. I'm still working for them in Reno as the Trustee with the Trusteeship to be completed by the beginning of April. I've resigned my position as President of Local 153 in San Jose effective February 16. My territory is geographically fairly large, draw a line from the east side of Montana down to the east side of New Mexico and everything west of that including Alaska and Hawaii. Over time I may have more opportunities to meet more of you when traveling. Wally I have basses to play, places to be and good music to make! Dave Brown
Big Territory, Wally. Especially since you are covering LA and Vegas, 2 centers of high intensity AFM membership. I wonder, what'll it be like. You'll be working out a service break request with the conductor of the San Francisco symphony, then it's up to Oregon to eat barbecue with somebody who got stiffed at a rich guy's wedding. Then you got all those cruise ships heading towards whale watching parties with embittered musicians upset because they don't have a cabin with a porthole! And you'll never get to Hawaii I'm sure. Don't they all just eat pineapple and get along down there? I can't tell you how great it is to see a BASSIST has got this job. Much more sensible and work-a-day than say, a vocalist! Great to see you heading this up. Here's hopin' it doesn't interfere with your own playing. Yep. I'm the other voice in the head of davebrownbass. Wally Malone
Thanks everyone! Dave, in a few months I should be able to actually gig more, especially on weekends. I've currently been doing three jobs and sometime in April I should be down to one unless they put another local in trusteeship and ask me to do that as well. I should be spending more time at home than I have the last two years since accepting the job as the Reno trustee. Wally I have basses to play, places to be and good music to make! Tom Capasso
Congrats Wally !! I wish you much success !! Will we be bringing back Bassed On Jazz? I like how one of the limits of your territory is Montana - perhaps a greenboy visit some day? Tom www.stoneflyrocks.com Acoustic Color Be practical as well as generous in your ideals. Wally Malone
Tom, I'm thinkin' that once the Reno trusteeship is over I can play more gigs on some weekends, with of course most of those being with Lady Bo. I've been starting to think about "Bassed on Jazz". Once I settle in to the new gig I may have time to book it and pick up the six-string since I haven't been playing it in a few months. When I get to go to Montana I must definitely catch up with greenboy. Willie, looks like we'll have even more opportunities to get together. Hope I have a cool gig when you're out this way. I have basses to play, places to be and good music to make!
