Approx. $600 for my Schecter. I am currently trying to determine the cost of my next bass, I'm guessing $2500-$3000.

$1400 - $1600 each for my last 2 - the Lull and the Lakland LE Bob Glaub.

$1200 for the custom Karl Hoyt fretless5.

All the others (used) for well under $1K.

Best deal - my '78 pre-EB B00**** 'Ray for $200 and a Kramer aluminium-necked fork-headed POS trade-in at a small shop outside of Omaha. Bought it in '84 and still have it... all 11.2 lbs of it.

OK, $200 for a 'Ray is just commendable. Kudos, JB.

Aussie- Quite the profit there. Kudos as well.

The most I have paid... $625.00, for my special order Ibanez Musician fretless. $1000 retail, 1984. I just saw a fretted sell on ebay for over 12 hundred bucks. Sigh.

And the least I have paid for a bass was $60.00. :D Nice bass, too.

I'd wager my next one will cost more...

Peace,

I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.

Does this belong to the guy with the "Pac-Man" and "Joust" basses, because it certainly reminds me of "Q-Bert".

i think talkbass looks down their nose at us. they definitely have a distinct culture there that only high end gear is worthwhile and that if you make a lot of friendly posts, you're an expert. don't bother disagreeing with a longtime poster there; you'll be ostracized. sometimes they surprise me with their openmindedness.

ah robb,

talkbass doesn't care. It's a huge universe with a whole lotta different levels and groups of different types. People who put a lot of time in there for years are naturally are better-known ... but that's neither here nor there.

A poll there is not too much more likely to reveal much of interest unless you could actually get a sizeable portion of all types, levels of expertise and professionalism voting. But there are definitely a lot more professionals there at all different tiers, and a lot more people who've played long enough to buy a lot of basses, and naturally some of them have ideas about what they want in a bass and interest in what luthiers are doing. Also a lot of day-jobbers who pull down sizeable salaries and want to spend them. Some look to purchases with uniqueness in mind. Sprinkle in a million weekend warriors, newbies, and casual hobbyists, and you have quite a mix.

When all is said and done, to the anyone involved in the bass sector of the industry, this forum is mainly of interest because of its association with a publisher, but if you want to tap the pulse of players or reach more people, talkbass is miles beyond. And many do, willing to suffer the traffic.

This is kind of like a little neighborhood here, but there is a big city.

$1k for my ever-so-slightly used Dingwall Afterburner 1.

Best deal was my Epiphone Rockbass that my best friend left with me when he moved to Texas on loan for an undetermined period of time. I might throw him some cash for it next time I see him. All it needed was some tender lovin' (some flat wounds, rewiring including fixing the ground and shielding, and a good setup) and she's my favorite bass to play live.

Seems like i am around the top of the list with a bit more than USD 2,000 for my Warwick. Which is a tad sad, as i consider myself an average player at the most. But i just had to get it. (and save up for more than a year)

i post on TB, and i think those who read my posts appreciate them. but i definitely think there's a prevailing culture there that i don't necessarily fit, and more often than not, it's not worth the effort to post my own honest opinions. too often i feel like there's some mega-poster who will push the popular flavor until everyone else falls in line (see bergantino IP hype, sadowsky hype, aguilar hype -- all great products, but if you're not 100% excited, please STFU). ya know?

i generally try to limit my posts to technical clarification, bergatino HT-112s rule, and the ocasional 4string thread or MM thread. otherwise i'm on the outside looking in.

i know sometimes we get that way around here, but i think this is the most open forum i've found. and it's the best site around for discussing something other than gear (TB) or way-OT (harmony-central). this is the most open site for peopel of all levels -- though i don't generally expand my own knowledge and understanding here, at least there are discussions of theory.

Paid £225 ($400 at the time) in 1976 for USA Fender Precision. Still got it!

Paid £800 ($1300) in 2003 for a Godin A4 fretless.

Not sure which is the most expensive.

Yes indeed. That is an amazing piece of work. I'm scared to know how long it took to cut and fit all those pieces in that cube design.

I suddenly have a strong desire to play Qbert.

+1 to everything. I've gone there recently, but when I'm there I almost always lurk. I'm jsut not as comfortable as I am over here.

I like this question to see what people are doing. One thing I've seen (and it really sticks out with PJR and some of the DudePit crowd) is that some people rarely (if ever) buy new. That often means that they have a slightly used boutique bass at a "new Stingray" price.

I spent $200 for a '69 Gibson EB3 in 1972, which was a bit of change but not terrible.

I spent $2400 in 2002 for a "made to mostly my spec" Kinal SK5B.

I paid about $1199 for my Ibanez Soundgear 1205 back in 1995, including taxes and the case I think. That was about US Retail but I bought in Canada...so I think I did okay.

My 55-94, bought used. Can't remember how much I paid in $ but it translated to around £960 - maybe $1600. My Yamaha Nathan East was only marginally cheaper at £950 new, but that was a very good price - they were listing at around £1,800 at the time.

Best deal - I bought a Wal for £350 and sold it for around £1400 (several years later).
