Big Daddy from Motown
OK boys and girls what's the most you've spent on a Bass? Tell the truth cause it won't impress anyone if you spent to much. My top price for a bass has been about $1050. I'm sure some of you have spent a lot more, and some a little less. Phil W
My Wal cost £820 secondhand in 1993 from The Bass Centre in Wapping, London. I suppose that's equivalent to about $1300 US. http://philwbass.com
Danzilla
Back in 1987, I paid @$750.00 (plus tax) for my Yamaha BB1100S, new. That's the most I've paid for any bass; I got screwed when I traded it in towards my Washburn acoustic; so ultimately that acoustic cost me more, I guess. alexclaber
In 1999, £650 for my '87 Warwick Streamer (also included was a gigbag, flightcase, two new 30' leads and a Boss BE-5B multi-FX). g.
Unfortunately the features I would like in a bass rule out mass-produced instruments. The closest anyone comes is Dingwall with the Afterburners, though I'm amazed at the prices and option list of the TK Instruments basses. . g.
If you knew that, you'd also be likely to know that I haven't bought one. Look at a few AB Six prices on eBay or at dealers to establish what they are going for. Then add some price and time to find a fretless model on eBay ; } . Nicklab
$2K for my Zon Sonus 6 string back in the day. Compared to how they're priced now, that was a steal. SteveC
$2,600 for a new Modulus Q5 fretless. Thank goodness both my current basses were under $400 each. I finally came to my senses.
rumpelstiltskin.
i spent $317.99 (tax included) in 1999 for a fender hecho en mexico J. i probably won't buy another bass until i buy a sterling ($600 used, $1,100 new), though i've been contemplating getting a custom marchlewski . that'd probably be more in the $1,500 to $2,000 range. but until then, the J is the most. ask me how much i've spent on an amp. that's where my money has consistently gone. robb. because i like people. Big Daddy from Motown
This thread is just about curiousity, I'm not making any value judgements about anybody. The 2 P Basses I own were very expensive ones for a Fender, probally too expensive but i like them.
Big Daddy from Motown
Robb did you see the blue Fender P at New to You in Ferndale. He always wants about twice what i'de pay for a bass. g.
Nice, though normally I wouldn't go for regular geometrics. Quinn
I bought a used Alembic Spoiler that I owned a short time and subsequently traded. I don't remember exactly how much it cost me somewhere between $1200-1500 if memory serves. kenfxj
$950.00 for my Stingray. Trade-ins did lower the price some. I'm thinking hard about a Ric 4003. That will probably top the Stingray. Push the button Frank.
jeremy c
I once owned a Zon Sonus six string. That was probably the most expensive bass I ever bought. The list price was $3700. When I sold it, I bought three basses with the proceeds. You could look up prices for my Mike Lull M4V. Add a little for the custom paint job. And then again I bought my Fender Jazz brand new in January of 1972. It cost me $305. In that year I bought a brand new car (a Ford Pinto) for $2450 out the door. My rent for $65 a month. College tuition at UC Berkeley was $300 a quarter. Gas cost 25.9 at Simas Brothers. I would say that that was my most expensive bass, compared to my income. (At the time I played five nights a week for $125) And I hope that no one here has ever MSRP for an instrument. Free download of my cd!.
EddiePlaysBass
I paid approx. $425 for my Ibanez (got a $50 discount because I drove for an hour to get to the store* ) and $120 (shipping included) for the Palmer. The bass I want now will cost me between $1200 and $2000 ... I started saving up 3 months ago, and it'll take me two more years *because I live that far away, not cos I spent an hour driving in circles "I'm a work in progress." mcbn
Roughly $1,000 including trade-in amount for my used Fender P. I did pay too much, but I got one of the good ones. I also made out exceptionally well on the trades. I traded 2 basses and 1 guitar. One of the basses traded for about $50 more than I paid for it. The guitar traded for exactly what I paid for it. After a year, I am still very pleased with myself.
