UTS-D
So here's my deal. I have this cool dude Glockenklang Soul Head straight from Germany. It's so sweet, it destorys, and it's a bad ass Weapon of Bass Destruction but the only problem is that it's still running on 220V (Euro-style). I have a step down transformer for it which works but I NEED to lose it; damn thing weighs 20lbs. Does anyone know of anyone in the San Diego area that is savvy in the way of electionics? OR does any one know of online instructions? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Don UNDER THE STONE Me
Bob Gollihur
Have you contacted the mfr?? Their manual shows that they sell them on this side of the pond with a native 110v power supply. If so you'd think they'd have the necessary parts to 110v-ize it, even if you had to go through a US dealer to have it done. http://glockenklang.com/en/ 1000 Upright Bass Links, Luthier Directory, Teacher Directory - http://www.gollihurmusic.com/links.cfm - Life is too short for bad tone -
g.
Check local music stores to use their tech or find one? I've got a good and affordable indie electronics tech here using this method. It also wouldn't hurt to get in touch with the manufacturer, which I've done often enough to get schematics, advice, caveats, and parts, or parts suppliers or numbers. . jeremy c
Most of the time changing the voltage is as simple as changing one jumper on a circuit board. Check with a US Glockenklang dealer. Free download of my cd!.
g.
That's true with switching mode power supplies generally. Not so true otherwise. .
UTS-D
So GlockenKlang USA wants to ship the head and the transformer and $200 up to Orange County. They'll make the conversion and then send it back. I found a place down here in San Diego that said to bring it by and then they can tell me if they can make the conversion. I'm willing to bet that I can make the conversion myself IF I had the instructions. I'm pretty handy in the ways of the soldering iron. Big Daddy from Motown
This isn't rocket science, on a linear amp head either the power transformer (inside the amp)has taps for 120 & 220 VAC or it doesn't. If it does we are talking about soldering 1 wire. if not you have to change the power transformer to one designed for 120 volt input voltage. Mucho expensive. I would expect about $175 bucks. There's no reason for GlockenKlang USA to want your step up transformer.
