Björn Fröberg
L'Orchestre De Contrebasses comes to mind, an ensemble with 6 upright basses, nothing else. It seems to be both classically trained and jazz musicians. - Bob Freebird A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. -Douglas Adams
Gruuve
I once had an invite from a fellow bassist to become the second bassist in a band he was putting together. He tends to play melodic basslines and I tend to rhythmic basslines, so it might have been quite interesting. I didn't have time nor motivation to pursue it at the time though. g.
Mike Watt and former Black Flag bassist Kira do "Dos" still (Erik mentioned them) - mini tours and three older albums - no drums either. Hard to picture the fIREHOSE/Minutmen bassist sitting during gigs, but here it is - I like Kira's near-teal Rickie: http://hootpage.com/dos02a.jpg .
