Gruuve
Hey folks: Tonight I finally tried hooking my old Boss DR-5 up and using it's built-in pitch to midi converter (bass plugged into the DR-5, DR-5 midi out plugged into the midi in on my laptop). It worked surprisingly well...the DR-5 recognizes pitches pretty easily as long as I have the treble turned up, pick light-medium, and only do one note at a time of course. However, there is one problem: bass guitar is played an octave below what's written on standard notation. For instance, an E1 on the staff is actually played as an E0 on the bass guitar. So, the software responds with a "Wrong Answer!" each time. I've sent the author of the software a note to see if there's a work-around I can use. If so, I'll post the answer here. If I can get this working properly, this will be way cool!
